The Access Model: A 1:1 Framework For Teaching With iPads & Other Tablets

The Access Model: A 1:1 Framework For Teaching With iPads & Other Tablets | iPad Adoption | Scoop.it

"The Access Model is based on a strength of tablets, and that is 1:1 access to the people, content channels, models, and instant feedback that tablets can uniquely provide. In most circumstances, this access is ideally asynchronous and self-directed.

It makes little sense to use tablets to provide a learning experience similar to the one provided in its absence. This makes both the tablet’s performance and the learning experience clumsy and ineffective.

A key factor in teaching with iPads then is to rethink the learning process using the potential provided by both 1:1 screen access, and the mobility and personalization they allow."

3 iPad Apps You May Not Know About for Demonstrating Learning

3 iPad Apps You May Not Know About for Demonstrating Learning | iPad Adoption | Scoop.it
While there are so many iPad apps that deliver content, I think the one of
the best uses for technology in education is to make something with what
you're learning. This might include producing a video, authoring a digital
book, recording a puppet show, creating a college, narrating a slideshow,
designing a comic book, or somehow making your own media and study aids.

Hilary Munchel Thompson's curator insight, December 8, 2013 11:00 PM

My students love doing scavenger hunts, but I've never tried one like this before. This could be really cool for reviews.

Dean Mantz's curator insight, December 9, 2013 10:51 AM

Thank you John Evans for sharing this infographic on creating QR code scavenger hunts via iPads on your scoop.it/t/ipads-in-education page.

Catherine Smyth's curator insight, December 12, 2013 6:38 PM

There are many affordances for QR codes in history. Pose an historical inquiry question and get students to gather clues (evidence) using primary sources embedded with a QR code at a museum, local community, school etc. Or, get primary students to create their own QR codes for artefacts. This could engage students in historical inquiry and the analysis and use of primary and secondary sources.

How iPads Can Create a More Engaging Classroom - teachingwithipad.org

How iPads Can Create a More Engaging Classroom - teachingwithipad.org | iPad Adoption | Scoop.it

"Not long ago, a teacher had nothing more to rely on than knowledge, textbooks and a few markers. Technology has slowly changed that in the past few years, with the Internet, multimedia programs and computers increasing their presence in the classroom. But with the rise of tablet tech, the student-teacher experience is facing a subtle revolution: joining the trend makes students feel as if they’re part of an environment that’s desirable because people speak their native languages. As the iPad becomes a teaching tool, classrooms are transformed into contemporary settings."

10 Reasons Why Handheld Devices Should Be Banned for Children Under the Age of 12 - Huffington Post

10 Reasons Why Handheld Devices Should Be Banned for Children Under the Age of 12 - Huffington Post | iPad Adoption | Scoop.it

"The American Academy of Pediatrics and the Canadian Society of Pediatrics state infants aged 0-2 years should not have any exposure to technology, 3-5 years be restricted to one hour per day, and 6-18 years restricted to 2 hours per day (AAP 2001/13, CPS 2010). Children and youth use 4-5 times the recommended amount of technology, with serious and often life threatening consequences (Kaiser Foundation 2010, Active Healthy Kids Canada 2012)."

Allie Peck's curator insight, March 10, 4:40 PM

While I don't necessarily agree with this in the extent to which it is depicted, there are certainly parts that I wholeheartedly agree with.  Often technologies are over stimulating.  Looking at a computer screen, iPad screen, TV screen, etc. for an extended period of time causes migraines in myself and many other people that I know.  I have seen other research that suggests technology use before bed will make it difficult to fall asleep, and even aids in the development of ADD in children because there is too much to take in.  As this article points out, technology also has an increased cause in depression in adolescence.  Given all of these incredibly negative side effects, why are schools pushing towards a technology centered classroom?
