There is no real down time in teaching. Here at ILO we are integrating engineering content into our science classes in order to more closely allign with the NGSS. As I work through that, this article caught my attention. This is a great way to engage boys and girls of all ages.

The most successful units in my online course are in story format. I am modifying a lot of them to be more story oriented. It is easier for students to follow and engage. This site is from NPR and has lots of interesting resources. I have used a few of the "discovery" stories as starters for my revisions.

At Iowa Learning Online we paid close attention to the shifts occuring in education and in the methods students were using to learn and access information. The result was a dynamic sytem where relationships live at the core and the technology helps facilitate the more powerful shifts. This infographic does help illustrate some of the shifts.

I imagine that giving people time and opportunity to test out different things and figure out what works best for their students would be an optimal way to over come fear.

The TED-Ed website allows you to engage in or create dynamic lessons around the hundreds of thousands of educational videos on YouTube. In this video, the familiar illustration assembled at the beginning of each TED-Ed video finds his [computer generated] voice and gives viewers a tour of ed.ted.com. The features explored include the ability to add multiple choice questions, open answer questions, "dig deeper" materials, and custom discussion topics to any video on YouTube.
