Yet somehow due to the planning and preparation and due to the valor fidelity and sacrifice of the Allied Forces Fortress Europe had been breached.They had been fighting in mainland Italy for some nine months the Normandy invasion was in a strategically more important region setting the stage to drive Germans from France and ultimately destroy the National Socialist regime. when 156,000 American, British and Canadian forces landed on five beaches along a 50-mile stretch of the heavily fortified coast of France’s Normandy region.
