Compassion: a Fundamental of Mindful Leadership... and Life

Compassion: a Fundamental of Mindful Leadership... and Life | Introduce new course in schools called COMPASSION | Scoop.it

What is the role of compassion in the workplace? Very simply, it is one of the four fundamentals of leadership excellence, of mindful leadership, and of living mindfully. And it can be a new year's resolution that you can implement starting today!

Compassion at Work

Compassion can be brought into each work day through simple acts of kindness. When we choose to take a purposeful pause and offer a colleague a compliment, or a word of encouragement, or inquire into their well-being, we bring kindness into the workplace. And the ripple effect of kindness is limitless. A compassionate leader can transform the most challenging workplace. When a leader embodies compassion and is seen as a kind person, even his or her toughest messages are more likely to be received well. After all, when we work with someone who honestly respects, includes, and values us, it goes a long way to making us trust his or her decisions.

This is such a wonderful thing to happen. Perhaps when other loggers or poachers see this, they will see that they can change their ways and turn things and their lives around. i.e. elephant poachers can turn into safari tour guides, and dolphin and whale killers can become tour boats to make money from loving them and teaching others what a wonderful animal they are.

Compassionate Houston – Register for Compassion Cultivation Training

 Welcome to Compassion Cultivation Training:

Compassion Cultivation Training (CCT) is a nine-week program designed to develop the qualities of compassion and kindness for oneself and for others. CCT integrates traditional contemplative practices with contemporary psychology and scientific research on compassion.

 What is Compassion?

We will broaden our understanding of compassion as we progress through the program. In the beginning, we can say that compassion action involves an awareness of someone’s suffering, accompanied by a heart response and the urge to help end the suffering. Later in the course, we will explore the idea that compassion is an emergent process that arises out of the interaction of non-compassion processes from attentional and affective domains, intention and insight, and embodiment and engagement.

My uncles in Iowa grow corn for ethanol.  They have a small crop where they grow corn they consume.  It is literally the best corn I've ever had.  I'm actually surprised Rhode Island produces almost $4mil in sweet corn.  I'm amazed that Mass produces $100 mil in cranberries.  I've seen a few cranberry bogs close down.  We produce so much why can't we actually feed everyone?

Diane Johnson's curator insight, January 28, 8:47 PM

Useful data for sustainability discussions

Bob Beaven's curator insight, Today, 2:38 PM

These maps are interesting, in the fact that the heartland of the United States differs so much from either coast.  Both the coasts, as seen in the first map grow fruits and vegetables.  The center of the country grows wheat, and wheat is the dominant  crop of the country.  This might account for the reason why fruits and vegetables are more expensive than grain based products.  The second map helps to drive home this point even further, of how different the coasts are from the heartland.  What I also thought was funny, however, was the author's comment that it looks like an electoral map.  Perhaps, the reason heartland states tend to side with each other and republicans is because of shared interests in the political arena.

Everyday leadership comes from all parts of society, but it's especially refreshing when the youth take the lead for the problems and challenges they encounter.  In every sector of society, when  the members take control of their destiny, solutions and better results are achieved.   Congratulations to this group of leaders in countering bullying and other issues.
