Convert and Download Any Video Clip From YouTube or Vimeo with Dirpy | Into the Driver's Seat | Scoop.it

Via Robin Good
Robin Good's curator insight, June 18, 3:07 PM

Dirpy is a free web-based app which allows you to easily download any video clip from YouTube, Vimeo, DailyMotion (and others) at your preferred video resolution or to convert/ download any such video to a .MP3 audio file.

Unique features that differentiate this tool from the many other similar ones available out there are:

  • serious controls and features

  • no spyware or upsells

  • support for high-quality mp3s,
like 256kbps 44.1khz stereo for HD videos

  • ability to transcode a portion of the video,
    like from 0:09 to 1:23.

The optional Dirpy bookmarklet which you can install on any browser allows you to easily dowload/convert any video you happen to encounter on the web. (You find the bookmarklet on the top right of this page: http://dirpy.com/studio)

Excellent. Highly recommended.

How To : Visually Record Ideas Using an iPad

Visual recording is similar to audio recording: they both use the same concept that is : recording. One uses voice and the other uses visual cues like diagrams, charts, lines, arrows...etc. Think about visual recording as visual mind mapping.

This is Visual Recording and NOT (in this case) Visual Facilitation

FaceTune is a great photo-retouching app for iOS devices (iPhones and iPads). Designed specifically for retouching human faces, FaceTune provides a specific set of tools to help you do just that.

To appreciate how good the tool is just look at anyone of the many video tutorials available (link below) which show you techniques and steps to clean up just about any pretty face.

Pretty impressive. Great ease of use and highly specific effects make this tool a hard one to beat. Too bad there isn't also a Web version.

"Apart from the ability to collaborate in real time, my favourite tool inside Google Docs is the ability to conduct research without having to leave the document I am working in.

"Not only does the research feature save you time, but allows you to easily collate a bibliography of sites that you have visited and used.  This is perfect for students doing a major assignment, where research and quoting secondary sources is a major focus.

"The research tool can also be used by younger students to start the research process.  I encourage students when starting to research a topic to find all the information they might need to gain a general understanding of their topic.  Once they have a number of sources and understand the topic in general, they can then easily go back through their research doc and find relevant information which will allow them to understand the topic in more depth."

Gallup.com - The Gallup Blog: What Works in Schools Is Real Work

Gallup.com - The Gallup Blog: What Works in Schools Is Real Work | Into the Driver's Seat | Scoop.it

by Brandon Busteed

"The best type of curriculum for preparing students for the workforce is one that focuses on real-world problem-solving. It sounds simple, but for the first time, we have clearly established a link between students learning 21st century skills and future work success.

"The results of a Gallup/Microsoft Partners in Learning/Pearson Foundation study show that young workers in the U.S. who reported learning 21st century skills in their last year of school are more likely to say they have higher work quality. In fact, those reporting high levels of 21st century skill development in school are twice as likely to have higher work quality compared with their peers who had low 21st century skill development.

"In the study, the 21st century skills include knowledge construction, real-world problem-solving, collaboration, self-regulation, skilled communication, technology, and global awareness. Of all these,real-world problem-solving is the most important factor of higher work quality. Positive responses to the following two items have the strongest link to work quality:

“Worked on a long-term project that took several classes to complete”“Used what you were learning about to develop solutions to real-world problems in your community or in the world”
