The one thing I was always missing was traffic. I tried everything from blog commenting and forum posting over distributing free ebooks and finally all the way to SEO.

Success was below mediocrity so to say. I asked myself what was the one thing that held me back from making lots of money online over the last few years?

It was a combination of low content quality (amazon niche sites), lack of consistency in posting fresh articles and finally missing knowledge about marketing and networking I guess. Then I saw a blog post on Viperchill about viral news sites and it hit me.

When I realized that this was possible I decided to start over again. This time I wanted to build a viral authority blog in my favourite niche which is WordPress, Marketing and all that stuff.

Here's a blueprint how I built the blog and received over four thousand visitors in my first three weeks.

Many influencers talk about the 80/20 rule: you should spend 20% of your time creating content and 80% of your time promoting it. 

Although I think this ratio really depends on your job, needs and company, it does capture one thing: if you write amazing content but don’t shout out your did so, no one will hear you. And as far as promoting your blog goes, you can pick and choose on the list above the items that make most sense to your company. If for instance you work for a very technical B2B company and your target audience is above 50 years old, you might want to consider investing in LinkedIn rather than Facebook, leverage influencers and invest time in guest blogging. It all really depends on your audience, where they are and what they care about. There is one very important point I’d like to add to this infographic: it’s not content repurposing (which I thing is one of the leanest way to do content marketing, it saves an incredible amount of time), it’s content recycling. Susan only knew how to surf website, but not how to build one. Now she runs her own e-business from home, selling ebooks and video courses.
Tell us about your website, www.easy-food-dehydrating.com. When and why did you start your site?

The housing bubble had burst and people were getting laid off from their jobs.  To be honest, that didn’t really affect me because I’ve always had that entrepreneurial streak … since the young age of 15 when I worked on dad’s farms for pocket money and learned that hard work pays off. My dad is a great teacher and a hard worker, himself being self-employed since leaving the (British) Army.  His work ethic rubbed off on me.

In 2008, I was working from home doing mechanical engineering design (with my brother) and then the recession began. Work dried up. What to do? I tried selling stuff on Amazon à la “FBA” (Fulfillment By Amazon) but the only ones being fulfilled were Amazon themselves …

Fast-forward to 2010 … I was watching Glenn Beck when he was on Fox News and he stated that his family had stored dehydrated food down in his basement – for emergency food purposes. The light bulb went off in my head.  You see, we’d been through back-to-back hurricanes in 2004 and we were without power for a couple of weeks. Fresh food ran out and frozen food languished in the freezer … what a waste.

I researched the food dehydrating topic and realized I wouldn’t be the first to start a website on food dehydrating.  I must admit I was a little scared of starting my own website … but excited too.

And then it hit me. How On Earth Was I Going To Start A Website?

I didn’t know a thing about websites, aside from how to surf! And on other websites I noticed “become an affiliate and sell our items on your website.”  What’s an affiliate? I wondered. I then did what we all do: I Googled “get a free website” …

The results yielded what I deserved to see from the search – but seeing as this is a family show I won’t repeat what I read here.  I then did a more realistic search “build a website” and up came a nice young lady who had an SBI! site.  I thought, What’s SBI? I continued reading the lady’s home page, and I was hooked, or rather I was persuaded with common-sense information that SBI! was the “real deal” – chock full of business guidance that “the other” website hosts just don’t offer.

On December 23, 2010, I became the proud parent of a brand new bouncing baby website I’d decided to call Easy Food Dehydrating.  And the rest, as they say, is history! Read more: click image or title.

What I’m going to do today is show you a very deliberate formula and list of inclusions that I follow with my posts in order to ensure that I get results.

I’m not saying that it works every time, but I can guarantee that if you start to add these elements to your own blog posts you’ll start to get wins a lot more often.

What makes this the perfect blog post?

Okay, so let me do a bit of explaining.

I’m not saying that I know how to write the perfect blog post and that everything I do on my blog is perfect.

It’s not.

In fact, I really don’t like my writing that much at all. (Do all bloggers feel like that?)

But I have been blogging for quite a while now and in that time I’ve been able to hone my posts by looking at what has worked and what hasn’t over the years.

It’s basically a lot of trial and error.

Today all I am doing is sharing the elements, strategies and ideas that I have seen make a big difference to the stuff I write. I’m hoping that you might read something new, apply it to your own blog and see a big difference in your own results.
