The 5 Cornerstone Values that Build an Authoritative Online Presence

The 5 Cornerstone Values that Build an Authoritative Online Presence | Internet Presence | Scoop.it

You've seen us talking a lot about authority -- authority with your audience, with search engines, with colleagues, with other web publishers.

Why do you want it? Because given the noisy, cluttered state of the web right now, it’s the authoritative site that earns the business.

  • It’s the site that delivers credible, effective solutions to customer problems.
  • It’s the site that attracts links from other authoritative publishers.
  • It’s the site that earns plenty of social sharing from an audience that wants to share high-quality, user-friendly content.
  • And it’s the site with a confident, ethical sales process that converts attention into business.

There are a lot of components to authority — site design, intelligent SEO, strategic content promotion.

But behind all of these is a single, non-negotiable element that every authoritative site needs. You’ll find a clue in the graphic that accompanies this post.

The “secret sauce” — the magic ingredient that makes the others work — is the intelligence and skill set of a talented, well-trained author.

In other words, the secret sauce is you.

Tweek your website using these guidelines:

  • "Care about your visitors and their needs.
  • Be Yourself
  • Don't be the mysterious "we"
  • Keep it simple
  • It's all about your loyal customers.

For each tip, see the section "How can you do it?"

Ally Greer's curator insight, June 27, 2013 3:34 PM

Your website is your first impression. No questions asked.

How do you turn casual browsers into loyal customers who rave about you to their social circles?

-Keep it simple (there's one I bet you've never heard before ;)). What is the four word story that you want your viewers to see, process, and remember? Integrate this into your site in any way you possibly can, and make sure it's consistent across the board.

- Down with the "royal we!" If you have a team, introduce them. If you don't, introduce yourself. And by introduce, I don't mean a zombie bio. I mean a photo, a little bit about what you do, and a few things about yourself as a person as well. Getting to know you and what you're about helps current and potential customers feel that much more connected to you and, in turn, your brand.

Is it really that simple?

How Big Data Is Transforming The Mobile Industry

How Big Data Is Transforming The Mobile Industry | Internet Presence | Scoop.it
As our personal and business lives migrate into mobile, there's virtually no end to big data applications.

The world is awash in data.

CIBC, a Canadian bank, predicts that information-generation growth will increase 50 times over the next decade. IDC, a market research firm, similarly forecasts a 44-fold increase in data volumes between 2009 and 2020. Mobile is playing a large part in driving this explosion in data.

Apple upended the electronics business six years ago with the release of the iPhone. The iPhone ushered in an era when design, both of software and hardware, became the paramount concept in the tech world.

Could data be the paradigm that anchors the next revolution? Many think so.

In a recent report from BI Intelligence on Big Data and Mobile, we define big data, examine mobile's connection to it, analyze its potential, practical applications, and pitfalls, look at how it's collected, and answer some of the most frequently asked questions about big data and mobile.

Here's an overview of the relationship between big data and mobile:

  • First, big data needs to be defined:

Create a voice people want to hang out with: putting it that way gives an interesting twist to the "be human" social media tip that's constantly thrown around by the gurus. I like the idea of viewing "social engagement" as "hanging out."

Be an active listener: If social media is 25% broadcasting and 75% conversing, it should probably be about 200% listening. If you're doing a good job, people are talking about you. Swooping in and letting them know you heard them is one of the easiest ways to make a customer's day, and isn't that what it ultimately comes down to anyway?

Realize that fans and followers are overrated metrics: I've seen Twitter accounts with a few thousand followers and about three hundred times the engagement of a brand with tens of thousands. Numbers are numbers. They're easy to report, but try explaining the ROI of social without any concrete interaction (hint: it doesn't work!).
