Why SEOs are Finding Themselves Reporting to Content Marketing

Why SEOs are Finding Themselves Reporting to Content Marketing | Internet Presence | Scoop.it
Google's many changes have moved content marketing to the forefront. At Eloqua SEOs actually report to content marketing now.

Some SEO practitioners are having a hard time adjusting to the many new changes in Google’s ranking algorithm, indexing system, and Google’s plunge into social media. On the other hand, content marketers are thriving in the SERPs. These changes have benefited the prolific content producers while hurting the traditional mathematician-type SEO’s ability to maximize organic web visibility. The old days of massive SEO audits, building lots of grey backlinks and page sculpting have been replaced with highly valuable problem solving content that is evangelized and shared throughout social media.

Google’s Sweet Spot

Two years ago Google’s sweet spot was easy to identify – Sculpt on-page factors, build lots of backlinks, have clean search-friendly code and make sure website architecture is flat. Content played a roll, but with enough backlinks it didn’t matter. Those days were dominated by the traditional introverted SEO practitioner who was considered a hero when they landed number one on Google. They told the writers what keyword phrases needed to be in their content, where and how many while doing the appropriate programming work, link building and tracking.

What Is Snapchat?

What Is Snapchat? | Internet Presence | Scoop.it

A primer on the photosharing service that Facebook reportedly offered to buy for $3 billion.

.... How does Snapchat actually work?

Once you've found your friends on Snapchat, you can simply start taking pictures and sending them out to as many friends as you want. The app has a couple of distinguishing features in terms of photo taking. One, users can draw on their photos. So that's funny sometimes. Two, you can caption any photo. Three, you get to set how long — from 1-10 seconds — the photograph will be visible to receivers. Crucially, too, the app tells you when your snaps are opened by the receiver. You know they saw it....

Henry Lee's curator insight, March 16, 8:59 PM

Basically Snapchat enables people to send pictures or videos, which self-destruct, to people in their network. I believe this type of app is ideal for sharing sensitive information. For example, Kim and Vi have proposed a social media learning strategy for medical residents that may contain highly sensitive PII information. Snapchat may be the perfect tool to support this learning strategy aside from building an entirely new information sharing program.

Why Should A Startup Have A Social Media Presence?

Why Should A Startup Have A Social Media Presence? | Internet Presence | Scoop.it

SHARE First & Worry About Everything Else Second
This Business 2 Community post is written for "business" but certainly applicable to startups. Startups must realize that "process is product".
Process is product means everything you are doing right NOW is a product.

The soon a startup begins publishing, broadcasting and sharing the easier it gets, the richer the fast feedback loops become and the more chances for success they create.

Many startups think what they have is so amazing that it can't be shared. With few exceptions (biotech) it is NEVER the case that your thoughts are unique or so unknown that your share will quake the world.

Any business is created in the execution developed for the idea. To worry about someone stealing your idea is to worry about the tide. Focus your energy on getting as much information out and in as many hands as you can as fast as you can. SHARE.

Realize that the most important "product" you build is the team capable of building something, pivoting on a dime and responding to what they hear with meaningful and amazing results.

If you don't have a way to capture your journey find one (write, video, infographics, animation, stories). Your goal should be to create the means of production - the framework where you can easily harvest UGC (User Generated Content) anytime needed.

UGC is more important to a startup than oxygen. UGC helps gauge reaction, shape your product and determine a startup's future.

Social media is one of the main forms of communications in today’s society. Whether it is between publics, consumers, or businesses, social media is an essential way of communicating with one another.  Business are able to use social media in many different ways to help there company and to expand the company to different publics.  By using social media companies are able to not only reach more publics, but have a better chance at becoming a well-known and successful company in the business and consumer world.  One reason why social media is important for a business is advertising.  In Adventure in Public relations, Guth and Marsh explain how much advertising can be done on social media and how affective it is in comparison to other Medias.  Advertisement on social media can be run twenty four hours a day, seven days a week.  It also shows the best of all types of media. The advertisement can show pictures, video, sound, and text. By using social media to advertise, your business has potential to reach consumers worldwide.  When you are reaching consumers worldwide the chances of your company making it big increase significantly.

On top of the advertisement being able to reach so many people, it is extremely cost-effective as well.  Using cost-effecting is another important reason why social media is so important.  It can be extremely expensive to print off thousands of flyers and brochures, or to place ads in a newspaper.  A company can launch a new product on a social media site for free!  To add to this by using social media the company is also able to be time efficient.  When advertising or simply working to reach target consumers and publics, it is made easy with social media.  On social media sites a company can advertise their products and launch dates on the screen, if a user likes a link or an add on their page they are able to follow the company and receive more promotions and ads to that company on their other social media sites.  These platforms help to target the business’ audience and consumers more easily and efficiently. Lastly a huge perk of using social media for your company is that you are able to get timely feedback from consumers.  Guth and Marsh explain that it is important to keep and a close following on the feedback that is given from consumers and when the company receives feedback, make sure to respond quickly and efficiently.

7 Big Facebook Changes You Should Know About for a Better Facebook Strategy

7 Big Facebook Changes You Should Know About for a Better Facebook Strategy | Internet Presence | Scoop.it

Facebook changes so fast, I often miss new features or updates to existing ones. Since there have been a few changes recently, I thought it would be helpful to do a bit of a wrap-up of what Facebook’s been up to.

1. Images are now bigger and wider – Here are the right sizes to use

Some recent changes to how Facebook displays thumbnail images mean that we need to be more aware of the size and aspect ration of any pictures we post. Because Facebook will automatically resize images that don’t match its specifications, we really need to remember these details for our images to look right.

The aspect ratio is very specific: image widths need to be 1.91 times the height. This will mean the image scales perfectly in both the desktop News Feed and on mobile. Images are now larger when shown in the News Feed, so keeping the aspect ratio right will make sure your images look great wherever the user sees them.

Recommended image sizes have also changed for Facebook’s desktop News Feed and mobile views. For the News Feed, Facebook recommends thumbnail images of 400×209 pixels. Images that are smaller than these dimensions will be resized to either 154×154 or 90×90 pixels.

Top 12 Free Image Sites

Top 12 Free Image Sites | Internet Presence | Scoop.it
One of the best visual techniques in capturing your users' attention is the use of images on your site. They are especially useful to bring a point across, beautify the website and enhance articles...

There are many stock free image sites on the web where you can purchase such images for reasonable prices. However, there are also many sites that let you download such high quality images free-of-charge. Find the best selection the internet has to offer:

1. StockFreeImages– This site belongs to Dreamstime.com and used to be in their free section. In March of 2012, all of the images were ported over to this current site. The images from this site alone has saved me thousands of dollars as I have literally used hundreds of their images for my niche sites. You will need to register one time in order to download and it has a liberal attribution policy (only required where possible). They currently have more than half a million large high-quality images (yes, you read that correctly, it is more than 570K images) for free download. If there is only one site you can choose, you definitely will not go wrong with StockFreeImages.com

2. stock.xchng – This is one of the most well-known and popular site on the internet that has a large collection of free-to-use stock photos. Currently has almost 400K free images to choose from. Registration is a must to use the photos and attribution does not seem to be required at the moment.

3. FreeDigitalPhotos.net – This site has plenty of images that are pretty original and it a very good site to source for new ones. Registration and attribution are required in order to download and use the images. The images, although smaller than most, are still great alternatives to the other sites.

15 Tips To Increase Blog Traffic! | Blogger's World | Dallas | Texas

15 Tips To Increase Blog Traffic! | Blogger's World | Dallas | Texas | Internet Presence | Scoop.it

The blogosphere is a big and busy world with over 100 million blogs and growing. How do you attract visitors to your blog? Follow these simple tips to drive ...

1. Write Well and Write Often

Frequently updating your blog with useful content is the first step to building your blog's audience. The content you write is what will keep readers coming back for more. Make sure you have something meaningful to say to them and say it often to maintain their interest and keep them loyal.

Furthermore, post frequently to increase the number of chances you have for your blog's content to be noticed by search engines such as Google or Technorati.

2. Submit Your Blog to Search Engines

Get on the radar screen for the popular search engines such as Google and Yahoo! by submitting your blog's URL to them. Most search engines provide a 'Submit' link (or something similar) to notify the search engine of your new blog, so those search engines will crawl it and include your pages in their results.

It's important to understand that simply submitting your blog to search engines doesn't mean your pages will appear at the top of a Google search results screen, but at least your blog will be included and will have the chance of being picked up by a search engine.

3. Use and Update Your Blogroll

By adding links to sites you like in your blogroll, the owners of those blogs will find your blog and will be likely to add a reciprocal link in their blogrolls. It's an easy way to get the link to your blog in front of many readers on other blogs. The hope is that some of those readers will click on the link to your blog on the other blogs' blogrolls and find your content interesting and enjoyable turning them into loyal readers.

10 Surprising Social Media Statistics That Will Make You Rethink Your Social Strategy

10 Surprising Social Media Statistics That Will Make You Rethink Your Social Strategy | Internet Presence | Scoop.it
Know what the fastest-growing demographic on Twitter is? Or how many new members join LinkedIn every second? The answers will surprise you!

1. The fastest growing demographic on Twitter is the 55–64 year age bracket.
  • This demographic has grown 79% since 2012.
  • The 45–54 year age bracket is the fastest growing demographic on both Facebook and Google+.
  • For Facebook, this group has jumped 46%.
  • For Google+, 56%.

Those are impressive numbers against the prevailing idea that social media is "just for teenagers." It certainly points to the importance of having a solid social media strategy if these age brackets fit into your target demographic.

Rethink it: Keep older users in mind when using social media, particularly on these three platforms. Our age makes a difference to our taste and interests, so if you’re focusing on younger users with the content you post, you could be missing an important demographic.

Research: The Emotions that Make Marketing Campaigns Go Viral

We’re all well aware of the fact that marketing is shifting from a landscape where marketers can utilize mass media to speak at consumers, to one where marketers are simply part of the crowd themselves.  The bullhorn of radio, television, print and other one-way interruptive marketing approaches are quickly losing efficacy. So how do you get your brand noticed?

A recent article by Mitch Joel argues that brands must publish more content, that the old standbys of frequency and repetition that worked so well in decades past are still worthwhile today. Truth be told, he’s right. Publishing more content, even if the content isn’t viral or noteworthy, can be a great way to maintain or even grow existing large audiences.

But what if your brand or company doesn’t have an active audience of avid content consumers already? In this case, piles of mediocre content certainly won’t do the trick. If you don’t already have a large built-in audience, you must attract them from elsewhere. Viral marketing is hands-down one of the best ways to do this.

8 of the worst tips about content marketing and going viral

8 of the worst tips about content marketing and going viral | Internet Presence | Scoop.it

I have heard some really bad advice about content creation, content marketing, and brand journalism. While the internet is filled with some great advice, there’s a lot of awful advice as well that I’ve overheard, read online, or been directed to do by clients that I’ve strongly advised against.

Here are my least favorite pieces of advice on content production:

“It’s all about video”

“You have to create video. Everything is video now.” This is uttered as if television hasn’t existed for 85 years. Video? What is this “video” you speak of? If video was the end all be all it would have rendered text, audio, and images as worthless. They’re not, and that’s why video is not the only way to communicate your story and message.

The irritation of this advice as is the problem with most of the listed advice is it’s uttered without inquiry into the goals or desires of the company and its audience.

Yes, video is valuable, but it’s not necessarily for everyone. What’s the best way to convey your story and information? Is your business visual? Do you have really interesting stuff to show? Would a picture of your product and its workings be a far easier way to demonstrate what it is you do? Do you have dynamic and smart people who work at your company that are great on camera? If yes to any and all of these, then create video. If not, then you don’t need video.

“Create viral content”

I have a video on my old YouTube channel that has almost 400,000 views.

10 Top Google Plus Tools for Digital Marketers

10 Top Google Plus Tools for Digital Marketers | Internet Presence | Scoop.it

Google+ is making waves in social media. So what are some powerful Google Plus tools that should be added to your social media marketing toolbox to improve your effectiveness?

Google+ is the love child of search and social.

When Google realized that Facebook wasn’t an aberration, anomaly or an afterthought it made its move. It created a social network that glued all its online assets together, collected social data and added social signals to its search algorithms. That glue cost them over half a billion dollars to design and develop. Google+ emerged from the Google lab womb with serious intentions.

To stop Facebook having all the fun, fame and fortune.

It collected demographic data that would allow them to target users with search ads that were user relevant. That’s called personalization. Others call it an invasion of privacy.

It’s the synergy of social networks and search engines that makes users salivate with information that informs and inspires them.

Google+ is about data

To create a Google plus account you needed to tell them your age, location, email account and other data that revealed your likes and dislikes. We also live in a digital data age that empowers us to express, publish and share. That reveals who we are and Google can use that to increase revenue and improve user experience.

Nothing is for free.

Social networks need a supporting ecosystem

Social media has grown rapidly because the online global community has provided the audience, the tools and the ecosystem that feeds the social media beast. The beast needs daily multi-media content to discover, wrangle and curate for its attendant audience.

To make sense of the data and allow brands to manage what could be described as extreme cat herding, you need social media management platforms.

Social media management platforms

When social media emerged from the web primal mist it was raw and wild. Smart and savvy entrepreneurs saw an opportunity. Social media needed platforms for creating, managing and measuring the mayhem and buzz.

Facebook with its longer history has many supporting platforms. Google+ is just starting to partner with providers that help it grow its community to add value to its users.

Some of the third party partner platforms for Google+ include the following five social media management platform tools.
