How to measure your website's effectiveness with Alexa - FreeNomads

How to measure your website's effectiveness with Alexa - FreeNomads | Internet Presence | Scoop.it
Alexa.com is an excellent way to get a snapshot of your website, see its global rank and compare yourself to your competition. Let's look at how to interpret this information.

Alexa.com, a subsidiary of Amazon.com, is an excellent way to get a quick snapshot of your website, see its global rank and compare yourself to your competition.

On the website, write the URL of your site and you will see the results.

Note: In order to get a quick overview of the websites you visit, you can install the Alexa toolbar directly in your internet browser.

The most important information on Alexa is your website’s global rank, bounce rate, daily pageviews per visitor, daily time on site and incoming links. So, what do these mean?

The Real Reason AdWords Isn't Working For Many Small Businesses

The Real Reason AdWords Isn't Working For Many Small Businesses | Internet Presence | Scoop.it

By now, you’ve probably read the New York Times piece that’s been making the rounds lately. If not, here’s the upshot: it concludes that Google AdWords isn’t practical for small businesses.

Unfortunately, it’s not the first time the Gray Lady has gone after AdWords, nor is it the first time that the paid search community has responded so vigorously in its defense. The real tragedy of the latest piece isn’t that AdWords has been singled out – it’s that the Times (and the business owners it interviewed) have once again missed the point....

It's not cost of Adwords, it's poor management by marketing that  leads to poor results.

Laura Brown's comment, March 6, 11:09 AM
Most people are ad blind and there are addons to block most ads from showing up at all (on the reader's web browser). I don't see how Adwords works for anyone versus finding something where you really are reaching people who are directly interested in your business or service. Google Ads and any ads online are something to play around with in your spare time.

Firstly, some ingredients that make for great SEO
If the above are the core ingredients for SEO domination then Google Hangouts is the special ingredient that binds them all together.
All sounds delicious right? So where’s the cookbook?
The following is a detailed account of what I have found to be the perfect recipe for hosting a Google Hangout on Air and, if executed correctly, can offer a vast improvement to your SEO. It includes the steps and 10 tips on how to use Google Plus Hangouts.

5 Effective SEO Tactics That Won't Cost Your Startup a Dime

5 Effective SEO Tactics That Won't Cost Your Startup a Dime | Internet Presence | Scoop.it

When most people think about SEO, they think about a long-term expensive strategy. Here are 5 free SEO techniques to help your startup grow without expenses.

Especially when you are a young business, strapped for cash (or even just not ready to make the kind of investment that SEO can sometimes be), finding ways to improve your rankings with spending a lot of cash can mean the difference between success and failure. For most small business owners, your budget is very small, and most of your money will be apportioned long before you can section off a piece for SEO strategies, even just for SEO content.

In general, startups fail for two reasons. First, they spend too much money, without the right backers and investments. Second, they are not aggressive enough with their online marketing techniques, and end up falling short when it comes to customers and client acquisition. Running a business takes money, and you should not be afraid to put money into SEO tactics—when you have real money to do so. In the meantime, there are plenty of ways to improve your rankings that won’t drain your bank account. Here are just five of the most popular free tactics I use on a daily basis.

12 Types of Evergreen Content That Attract Valuable Links

12 Types of Evergreen Content That Attract Valuable Links | Internet Presence | Scoop.it

Excerpt from the article by Search Engine Watch:
"Evergreen content is a valuable resource for your website. The term "evergreen content" refers to content that won't quickly become out of date or totally incorrect within a short time period, such as a week or a month. You add updates as needed, linking back to it from new related content, and socialize with each change or whenever the topic again becomes timely.

Let's look at 12 types of evergreen content (here just is the list):
1. Yearly Posts That Can be Updated;
2. Posts That Track Something;
3. Interviews;
4. How-to Posts;
5. Posts About the History of Something;
6. About Us Pages;
7. User Tips;
8. Testimonials;
9. Reviews;
10. Curation Posts;
11. Personal Biographies;
12. Resources.

So when you're struggling to figure out what to write about, consider something evergreen. No one is going to churn out 100 evergreen posts a week, nor should they, but it's good to recognize the power of content that isn't outdated within a few days. People like it. They like sharing it, and that increases the odds that you'll attract links."

Eye Tracking 101: How Your Eyes Move on a Website

Eye Tracking 101: How Your Eyes Move on a Website | Internet Presence | Scoop.it

Engage website visitors better by designing your site to match how people's eyes move on the page. Here are some surprising eye tracking stats to help.

Putting together a great looking website is a great start, but it is just a start.

True web design requires you to venture beyond the aesthetic and into the worlds of User Experience and Conversion Rate Optimization.

Knowing how the viewers of your site really see it can help to shine light on new and/or missed opportunities within your current design. It may also bring out the need for new elements or changes.

While there are plenty of options for improving CRO, eye tracking analysis provides some of the most useful information for optimizing your biggest digital marketing asset, your website.

A good design will catch people’s eye, but a great design will keep people on your site and get them engaged with your content. And while you shouldn’tunderestimate the power of good copy, your design is what people notice first.

We teamed up with our friends over at Single Grain to put together the infographic below in hopes that it will help everyone get a better, basic understanding of what eye tracking is and what it can do.

Why SEOs are Finding Themselves Reporting to Content Marketing

Why SEOs are Finding Themselves Reporting to Content Marketing | Internet Presence | Scoop.it
Google's many changes have moved content marketing to the forefront. At Eloqua SEOs actually report to content marketing now.

Some SEO practitioners are having a hard time adjusting to the many new changes in Google’s ranking algorithm, indexing system, and Google’s plunge into social media. On the other hand, content marketers are thriving in the SERPs. These changes have benefited the prolific content producers while hurting the traditional mathematician-type SEO’s ability to maximize organic web visibility. The old days of massive SEO audits, building lots of grey backlinks and page sculpting have been replaced with highly valuable problem solving content that is evangelized and shared throughout social media.

Google’s Sweet Spot

Two years ago Google’s sweet spot was easy to identify – Sculpt on-page factors, build lots of backlinks, have clean search-friendly code and make sure website architecture is flat. Content played a roll, but with enough backlinks it didn’t matter. Those days were dominated by the traditional introverted SEO practitioner who was considered a hero when they landed number one on Google. They told the writers what keyword phrases needed to be in their content, where and how many while doing the appropriate programming work, link building and tracking.
