Seed Is Creating A Truly Idiot-Proof Internet Of Things | Internet of Things | Scoop.it
In the vast panoply of potential home networking protocols, there are only a few worth worrying about. Wi-Fi works well but it can go down and ZigBee and the like are sparsely supported. But Bluetooth Smart is local, secure, and easy to use.
Merja Saarela's insight:
Brilliant future scene. And yes, this tiny chip is a very smart solution.

Made with Code_Google

Made with Code_Google | Internet of Things | Scoop.it
Things you love are Made with Code. Code your first creative project and meet music producers, fashion designers, humanitarians, and animators who are coding the world they want to see.
Merja Saarela's insight:

Google is spending $50 million over the next three years to strengthen girls coding knowledge. I'd say Google is a far-sighted in this act to push digital products and whole business into a new direction. I suppose female touch is just the thing we need to get digitalization into more human direction - to get feelings and all senses involved with in new products and services.

Building Code To Break Poverty In Bangladesh | Internet of Things | Scoop.it
Teaching people in the third world how to code seems to be a growing trend that may just help to break the world-wide poverty cycle. Danish-based microfinancing operation CodersTrust is starting to do just that with a test group of 100 Bangladeshis.
Merja Saarela's insight:
I suppose giving education is the best way to do "Charity". This is the big opportunity for the third world. The CodersTrust created their microfinance organization to give those below the poverty line a chance for better future with a better education.

Samsung’s Health Event Was All Hype, No Substance

Samsung’s Health Event Was All Hype, No Substance | Internet of Things | Scoop.it
Samsung’s “Voice of the Body” event held earlier today had seemingly everything Samsung could squeeze out the door before Apple’s Healthbook’s big WWDC reveal. A cool-looking watch that can collect multiple data points on your health?
Merja Saarela's insight:
Näyttää sille, että Samsung ei pystynyt täyttämään käyttäjien ja tekniikkafriikkien odotuksia "Voice of the body" -tilaisuudessa. Tapahtumassa ei julkaistu mitään sellaista, mitä ei jo entuudestaan tiedetty. Erityisesti yleisö jäi kaipaamaan käyttäjänäkökulmasta gadgettien avaamista. Toimivatko tuotteet ja miten tosielämässä? - The audience seem to have faced disappointment on Samsungs "Voice of the Body" launching. High expectations flattened. Especially some results from the users' view was expected, actual use cases for their new software.

NDTVA Home Automation System You Can Talk To, and a Beacon Without BatteryNDTVOne project that really caught our eye this week was the Homey - a voice-controlled home automation tool that looks like a bleached Nexus Q.
Merja Saarela's insight:
- Intelligent home automation solutions are very interesting. I've always been interested in Science fiction books and movies like Star Trek. These intelligent home solutions create feeling like l've suddely got to Future wonderland. Though there's very little research done in real world with real experiences, the whole setting just looks very promising. Very exciting.

Aiempia vastaavanlaisia kehitelmiä ovat mm. DoorBot ja SkyBell. Google’s Redesigned Drive Focuses On Speed, Office Compatibility And Security

Google today gave its Drive online storage service a major redesign today and with it, it is also bringing a number of new features to its Docs, Sheets and Slides productivity apps on mobile and the desktop.
Merja Saarela's insight:
This could sound very good, almost too good to be true. I've used these tools and Drive for many years now. Mostly I've been quite satisfied, but sometimes there has been kind of slowness. Perhaps with these new features it will work more fluently. It really is helpful that you can find all your documents where ever you are and continue to work with it as long as you have Internet Access.

NYC’s New Maps Orient You Like A GPS

NYC’s New Maps Orient You Like A GPS | Internet of Things | Scoop.it
33 of New Yorkers cant find north. So a new Pentagram project injects permanent city fixtures with the first-person perspective of a heads-up display.
Merja Saarela's insight:

This is very interesting and new way to think about a pedestrian's view and perspective.  While most public maps always depict north as being up, WalkNYC maps are oriented in the direction a user is facing, just like the first-person view of a GPS. Given that these signs each have two sides, that means the maps aren’t merely duplicated--they’re flipped to match the very specific way you’d be facing to read them. It'll be fascinating to see what the public think about these Maps.

Google Plans Low-Cost, High Quality Wi-Fi Networks For Small- And Medium-Sized Businesses, Report Says | TechCrunch

Google Plans Low-Cost, High Quality Wi-Fi Networks For Small- And Medium-Sized Businesses, Report Says | TechCrunch | Internet of Things | Scoop.it

Merja Saarela's insight:

This is very smart business act from Google. The ultimate purpose is of course to create new business, but at the same time this could benefit us all and the development of the next generation's Wi-Fi. The key feature of the network would be a user based and remembered Google account login, and set them up on any other Google-controlled Wi-Fi network anywhere in the world automatically. This Hotspot 2.0 feature would help in terms of clearing up the onerous task of signing in to new networks every single time. And we all certainly appreciate this quality. And for Google, it means getting users more friction-free access to their Google accounts and services, which has obvious benefits in terms of its ad recommendation engines and products. The plan is to get better Wi-Fi in the hands of these businesses in order to get more users working on Google apps and services. It will be interesting to see, how all of this come true.
