50% of businesses believe that social offers greatest marketing opportunities over next year - Econsultancy | #TheMarketingAutomationAlert

50% of businesses believe that social offers greatest marketing opportunities over next year - Econsultancy | #TheMarketingAutomationAlert | Internet Marketing | Scoop.it

Excerpt...

Digital marketing offers greater opportunities for businesses over the next year than more traditional channels, according to a new report.

When asked to identify which three marketing channels offer the greatest opportunities, half of brands (50%) mentioned social media followed by email (43%) and websites (35%).

In fact the top 10 most cited channels are all online, with the most popular offline channel being direct mail at 8%.

The findings come from the new Econsultancy and Responsys Cross-Channel Marketing Report 2013, which contains a comprehensive analysis of the use of online and offline marketing channels, integration of display advertising and use of mobile for marketing.

Michael Chretien's insight:

Infographic says it all. SM then Email and website marketing rule.  I would put a tad bit of caution as it is a rather small sample (187) of uncertain quality people surveyed.

marketingIO's curator insight, September 5, 2013 7:26 AM

Only 20% of the respondents are retailers, so don't completely disregard the data, although I think 50% is too high/optimistic, and is setting social up for failure. For the B2B entity, social is a channel and a sales tool.

Leads Take Hold as the Primary Goal of Content Marketing

Leads Take Hold as the Primary Goal of Content Marketing | Internet Marketing | Scoop.it
This year, as content marketing becomes integral to nearly half of US companies’ marketing efforts, the purposes of the tactic are converging on one key goal: lead generation. This jumped from the No.

Via The Fish Firm
Michael Chretien's insight:

I thought the primary goal was education via content to your target market first.  Worry about getting them to email, call or whatever second.

I can see content marketing being used for leads and that may be a good measureing stick, but I think building up your rep and showing your expertise would help more, in my opinion.

Marketing Ops is called on to develop strategic and tactical plans on behalf of the marketing department. Being able to tell a story is vitally important to this process. Here is a good infographic about building the "story."

Marco Gabrielli's curator insight, August 13, 2013 8:30 AM

Il poster evidenzia gli argomenti chiave, necessari per sviluppare differenti forme di storytelling. I tre elementi principali sono:

1) la definizione di sette popolari tipi di trame (la vittoria sul mostro, diventare ricchissimi, la traversata del deserto, nuova consapevolezza, commedia, tragedia, rinascita) ;

2) l'identificazione di sette tipi di eroi presenti nelle diverse trame (Dracula, Cenerentola, Ulisse, Alice, Aristofane, Macbeth, A Christmas Carol);

Social Media Marketing on the Rise | Social Media Today

Social Media Marketing on the Rise | Social Media Today | Internet Marketing | Scoop.it

With their recent study, The Creative Group predicts that the majority of advertising and marketing executives (62%) expect an increase of their company’s spending on Facebook marketing in the follwoing twelve months – 9% more than they predcited one year ago.

Not surprisingly, the advertising spend on Facebook leads the list of social ad spendings. However, the majority of executives will also invest in other channels more than last year: LinkedIn (51% up from 38%) and Google+ (50% from 41%). Twitter is also on the plan for a budget increase with 48%, as well as Youtube (40%), Pinterest (35%) and Instagram (32%)

Although this shows a great breakdown of all industry sectors and job titles in an overview, the different industry segments and job titles varied in their view on budget increase:

Facebook
- Large companies (100+ employees): 74% of marketers expect an increase in Facebook spend
- Smaller companies (100-249 employees): 60% predict an increase for Facebook spendings

Twitter
- 57% of advertising executives expect an increase in spendings
- 48% of marketing executives expect an increase in ad spends
- 12% of marketing execs expect a decrease in spend
- 6% of advertising executives expect a decrease

The study was based on a US survey of 300 marketing executives and 100 advertising executives.
