Verizon To Duke It Out With Hulu, Netflix, Amazon And HBO GO

Verizon To Duke It Out With Hulu, Netflix, Amazon And HBO GO | WEBOLUTION! | Scoop.it

The rapidly growing licensed video market has a new player. Verizon, partnering with Redbox parent company Coinstar (yes, of change-jar-disposal fame), joins Hulu, Netflix, Amazon and HBO GO in a war of business models: subscription versus advertising. But while its start date is set for the second half of the year, Verizon, which has yet to publicly pick sides, could conceivably broaden the streaming ad market.
In the mobile world, Verizon’s advantages are clear: access to users in its stores and on its high-traffic service management website; the ability to block other streaming providers if need be; and its video app Flex View, which lets FiOS subscribers watch movies on their phones or tablets.

Pinterest Works Better Than Google+

Pinterest Works Better Than Google+ | WEBOLUTION! | Scoop.it
Let's be grown up about this. Pinterest is an app for sharing lists of scrumptious-looking stuff. It's not for girls or guys, it's for people who like looking at things.

On Pinterest, you have fine-grained control over what pins appear in your feed. In fact, for all Google's efforts to figure out how to control unwanted social stuff with Circles, I daresay they got it backwards. Pinterest is the reverse of Google+ circles, and it's better for users.

I am really impressed with the results of Pinterest for ME

Transparency vs Anonymity ... Who Are You Online?

Today’s infographic shows these divergent philosophies of Internet culture and, most interestingly, what the average Internet user thinks about the privacy of their information online.

**What type of user are you?

**Do you prefer anonymity or transparency?

Jan,
This is a terrific summary of the infographic. My feeling is that transparency is not a black and white definition of - disclosing everything or disclosing nothing. There's lots of shades of gray. I like the definition of transparency from "Public Parts" that Jeff Jarvis published last year - it also includes engaging with people around what you disclose. I think there is a place for being anonymous - especially when the information you disclose might put you in physical danger. Have written a lot about transparency - about the practice in my first book and in my second book how to measure it http://www.bethkanter.org/power-light/

6 Social Media Networks to Watch Now + [ Infographics]

6 Social Media Networks to Watch Now + [ Infographics] | WEBOLUTION! | Scoop.it

This piece was put together by Jeff Bullas and selected for me by maxOz, my fellow curator.

I chose to post this piece today because as Jeff says "the social media ecosystem is now so extensive and encompassing that it would be best to stand back and reflect on some significant events and evolutionary social networks that could make a difference this year that are impacting how we communicate and connect. The comments from readers are just as interesting.

**It's important to stay abreast of these different enviornments where we blog, curate consume content and information. Knowing the landscape and understanding how to communicate in each one network is a whole other conversation.

Here's an excerpt:

The Social Media Universe

Perspective is hard to find unless you take the time to sit back, reflect and take the time to view a “Landscape” or “Universe” from a distance.

The larger the view the further back you have to stand to see the depth and breadth of the scenery and ecosystem.

Why you’re wasting time with Twitter right now | Search Engine People | Toronto | WEBOLUTION! | Scoop.it

Twitter VS. Guest Blogging

I wrote a guest post about my new ethical link building eBook for Ileane Smith of BasicBlogTips.com. The post took just over an hour to write and submit and I spent a further 1.5 hours answering people’s questions in the comments section.

I received 31 visitors to my website in the 20 days since posting the article:

That’s 31 visits from 2.5 hours of work and that’s only in 20 days compared to the last 30 days with Twitter.

That’s 12.4 visits per hour spent guest blogging. Scaling up to 30 days it would be 18.6 visitors per hour of work.

And that doesn’t take into account the much more substantial search engine benefits from multiple dofollow links from major blogs in your niche.

Clearly guest blogging represents much more value for the amount of time you put in compared to Twitter for a new Tweeter.

NoTube: bringing Web and TV closer together

NoTube: bringing Web and TV closer together | WEBOLUTION! | Scoop.it

As NoTube began, its vision of bringing Web and TV closer together via shared data models and content across multiple devices was ambitious and visionary. As we close, it is noteworthy how much of the TV industry has caught up with this vision, at least in individual and closed new technologies and products. Yet the NoTube results are now more relevant than ever: TV platforms are proprietary, cross-device communication non-standardized. NoTube services could form the backbone for personalised TV applications where the user still controls their data. Your Social Media and SEO Game Plan for 2012

Your Social Media and SEO Game Plan for 2012 | WEBOLUTION! | Scoop.it

Every company should have a plan on how to establish themselves professionally on social media, taking into account various parameters such as volume of publication, SEO and organization. This article will give you support to make it more easily. [note Martin Gysler]

Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you will have heard about the Google Panda update and what it did to many low-quality websites last year. It was more like a Google sniper attack on all the spam and rubbish sites. Honestly, this does not seem to be the end of the Panda: there is more to come, and we need to watch out.

The whole reason Google made these changes was to give Google users a good experience when they use Google search, and why not? When I look for something on Google the last thing I would want to see is rubbish information.

That is why, as SEO marketers, we need to take a different approach to ranking on Google and driving free organic traffic to our sites. If you have done any kind of SEO, you know what the key principles of ranking on Google are.

choosing the right keywords building a well optimized site with good content building quality backlinks.
