As websites are quickly becoming a go-to source for breaking news, broadcasters are urged to make sure their sites are optimized to handle unexpectedly large amounts of traffic.

Yeah, I know. This is really about TV. Big TV corporations to be exact. But... It's applicable to any media provider - like an independent internet radio jockey. The key take away is this: If your listeners come to your site and it's dead air or broken you've probably lost 'em forever. Why? You're competing with a whole whack of entertainment sources and if you're down they'll move on. Don't don't don't let it happen to you. Be stable. Be consistent. Be entertaining. Delete the scoop?

While there's still few details and no official announcement, AOL is shutting down its AOL Music news properties and is firing their employees, according to tweets from the official AOL Music site Spinner's account and some staff.

AOL Music is shutting down. AOL music owns Nullsoft. Nullsoft develops and releases Shoutcast. OH NOES. The good news is that Nullsoft isn't going anywhere so Shoutcast will continue to be a viable product for streaming. Delete the scoop?

Granted, I can't make use of these but you might: Here be a list of a handful of shoutcast (and possibly icecast and general audio) players you can put on your website so folks can listen to your radio stream. My personal fave is the jPlayer one. It's flexible and since it can play most audio streams it's pretty handy. I played with it a bitsy when I was running a podcast. Delete the scoop?

I haven't tried this yet, but SoundToys has released a microshift plugin and they're giving it away free. Might be worth a check. It's kind of a pain to get it but... Who knows it might be really cool.

I know that this article is dance music oriented with it's chatter about beat matching, remix sets, and all that sorta thing but the mindset behind the article is applicable no matter what kind of tunes you've got in the queue. Keep your listeners in mind. Do the right thing for them. Pick great tunes. Use toys and effects to make your sound better - not to entertain yourself whilst DJing.
If it sounds good, it is good. Even if you're just playing great tune after great tune. Delete the scoop?

I don't usually buy CDs - I've gone totally digital. But when I do end up with one, like CDs from Uncut mag or those really hard to find things like the "Sid and Nancy" soundtrack I'm into using the FLAC codec. This article gives a comparison between the various compression settings you can pic. I figured I might as well pick 0 since the difference in disk space is so minimal.

I use Drupal to run the djsizzly.com website. There’s oodles of reasons why: It’s extensible, it has some nifty themes, there’s lots of modules that are (reasonably) easy to implement/modify to do whatever you could possibly imagine.

Hmmm... I'm not too sure if this is worth the price. I mean, most broadcasting software I've ever played with (DJ Software too) tends to have this functionality built in. I guess if you're running a pod cast or something without a "console" type app it might be handy.
I don't know. I'm going to continue to use SAM BC and Traktor to pull of this functionality. Perhaps it'll be helpful to you. Delete the scoop?

There are several types of plugs typically used by Internet broadcasters and podcasters to connect their computers, MP3 players, and microphones to their mixers and recorders. Not that I worry about such things, but if you are looking to pad your résumé with projects running a broadcast is fab choice. You learn a whole lot about the way audio is produced along with the exposure.
