Bandi Mbubi: Demand a fair trade cell phone | Video on TED.com

Your mobile phone, computer and game console have a bloody past — tied to tantalum mining, which funds the war in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Drawing on his personal story, activist and refugee Bandi Mbubi gives a stirring call to action.
Christina Lee's insight:

Congo people were raped, tortured and slaved due to the materials that usually make for computer, cellphone or any other electronic devices. Telephone is the tool of freedom, but also used as those of oppression in politics. Now we have technology to spread the message, information and new. It’s time to spread the fair trade in cell phone to get rid of unnecessary pains in human.

The process in my class

The process in my class | International Trade and Commerce | Scoop.it
Christina Lee's insight:

What i learned in this class was that Steve Job's last word was about building an enormous 'space ship' which can accommodate nearly around 1200employees. And he proudly said, "Apple is growing like a weed" and certainly not feared of tech war btw enormous firms over the globe. The 49 Day Battle had actually proven like as what he referred. Another beneficial learning mentioned in the class was that diversifying to fight over against competitors. To be specific, those who were merely small businesses 7yrs ago have been developing their own strategies and plans for the future. Relying on the fact of the fierce competition, keeping secrets became essential requirement in the market.

There were 3 steps of roadmap. First, post PC-world became popular among many people as they want to display time consuming and limited area products to the simple and easy usage of device. Nest step was facilitating the consumption, by socializing and spreading it out in an easy way. Lastly, big note book of data has much power since sth that someone know can be a product; she or he can sell the data the person knows.

I was really surprised about the pop-quiz during the class. Even though it was not difficult, i was nervous. I hope to get a full mark on that quiz. It was interesting to know about Scoop it web site. I would like to know more about the environment and nature although my future dream is working in a trade or commerce sphere. Can i just pick up the topic that I’m interested in? or do i have to necessarily choose the subject related to my future career?

That is what I wrote in the beginning of class.

CenfroCafé: organic and fair trade coffee for the Peruvian market | TRADE FOR DEVELOPMENT CENTRE

CenfroCafé: organic and fair trade coffee for the Peruvian market | TRADE FOR DEVELOPMENT CENTRE | International Trade and Commerce | Scoop.it

The global coffee crisis of the early 1990s was caused by the brutal deregulation of the international markets and plunged millions of coffee-growing Peruvian families into misery. Some twenty producers got organised and created the CENFROCAFE (Central Fronteriza del Norte de Cafetaleros) cooperative in 1999 to sell their, meanwhile organic and fair trade certified, coffee better.

Today, CENFROCAFE PERU has become the fourth coffee growers organisation in Peru. Since 2009, the teams of CENFROCAFE PERU have been involved in a new project that aims at developing an integrated production and commercialisation chain for organic fair coffee for the domestic market. This programme is supported by the Trade for Development Centre of BTC.

The era of digitalization opened the gate to the globalized workplace. Economic flows over the globe have both positive and negative perspectives. I learned that foreign investors, western companies and capitalists took advantage from the short-term investment in Indonesia and South Korea in the 'era of global finance'. Therefore, great threaten to the victims who are getting poorer than before while wealth of minorities increases. The result of global casino was devaluation in money, increase in unemployment rate and rise in debt eventually. A Brief History of International Trade

A Brief History of International Trade - Lecture to students at UC Riverside Extension on February 22, 2012 by Ryan Petersen, President of ImportGenius.com. ...
Christina Lee's insight:

It tells that tons of good data like who are the importers, who are the Supporters overseas are kept in digital document. In the brief history of international trade, time value is imp but the “marine clock” which works in the ocean is more essential to ancient people. Under the condition of water, the revolutionary clock shows you the way of East and west. John Harrison invented it. Our ancestors made the same tool for 1.5million years. Trade makes us human. It makes us who we are. Transports in large amount of goods were abled by horses and wheels. However, he mentioned the boats (vessels) are the most efficiency channel to carry its’ burdens. Pope burnt incenses usually and trades them into Middle East. We have document of Roman trade route which included many part of world.  Islam was a good merchant. Muslims were phenomenon traders who went throughout India Sea at that time. British and Dutch colonies fought over to control the island where own many products like spicy. Venice bought many spicy to make pretty good profits. Discovery of oil was innovation. The sizes of container ships are enormous so that people do not have to carry containers. In 2005 and 2006, people looked for location of factories in China, and the customers &providers through the internet. Level of trade was upgraded by internet, connecting people.

Tips and Hints

-The tips of my blog-

Well, I chose this topic to prepare my future career and advance my knowledge of trade and commerce. Therefore, I scooped many articles in internet news, especially in New York Times. I did it to know the facts and events that are going on right now and to see in 3rd person’s point of view. Increasing the data in objective matters are essential, but also listening to various people are important, too. Therefore, I also scooped many Ted videos telling me about the relationship between language and trade or history of trade. In the Ted video, speakers are creative speakers whose idea was incredibly surprising to me. It will be more interesting if you search for I.study in my filter system. In I.study category, I tagged articles that I mostly interested in or crucial idea about trade and business strategy.

My favorite part of blog is fair trade. There are several articles talks about the fair trade in coffee or phones. People of Congo or those of other countries suffering from the war of tech and business seem like victims of international trade and commerce. Business men and women have to aware of these as serious issues. Instead of just focusing on business strategy, productivity or management skills, it is time to think about business ethics that occurred due to the business activity for such a long time. Business was able to operate through labors’ effort and environmental resources. Sustainable resources have to be reconsidered and search the solution for those innocent victims. Unless, capitalists reward and consider the human right or environment, constant development through trade will become a huge problem soon or later. Of course it will take time and cost, but small village of Bhutan even knows and acts in response. I hope U.S. companies to act like it also.
