Handwriting better than copywriting

Handwriting better than copywriting | International Public Affairs | Scoop.it
Mobility often imposes on us the use of digital devices. Smartphones and tablets have replaced desktops but also our writing pad.  It is so convenient and practical that we tend to use the new devices even when it would be equally practical to take or to send a hand note, or to talk a to…
Franco Veltri's insight:
Several studies revealed that managing information only through digital devices affects our creativity and our ability to consider the broader context. It’s important to maintain a regular writing practice in order to support the creative processes in the brain.

What Freedom of the Press Means for Those Who Own One

What Freedom of the Press Means for Those Who Own One | International Public Affairs | Scoop.it
A renowned media critic sounded the alarm in 1960 about corporate takeovers of newspapers and layoffs of hundreds of journalists. He worried that the power of the press was being concentrated in too few hands.
Franco Veltri's insight:

An invisible hand may be manipulating the news we receive... Internet was seen as the best improvement ever in terms of facilitating freedom of information. But now algorithms calculate what is relevant to a user. They are based on subjective human judgment, not news value or public interest. Those human beings could consciously or unconsciously manipulate public opinion.  Scary but interesting view...

Everything you need to know about the future of newspapers is in these two charts | International Public Affairs | Scoop.it
It’s no surprise that print-based media like newspapers are seeing their market share decline and their advertising revenues fall along with it — but these two charts show the fall is not slowing, and if anything it is likely to pick up speed
Franco Veltri's insight:

Print media is continuing to decline, in the US. At the same time, mobile is clearly becoming the leading medium as these figures (about advertisement reveneus) clearly show. Future focus of PA plans need to take this into account. As examples, format of news releases needs to be mobile-friendly, Social Media takes a greater value together with imagery

Here is a case of a prudent measure applied by a teacher that led to criticism only because it was poorly communicated.

Franco Veltri's insight:

Is it always the best tactics to timely react to negative articles in the media, or to false allegations on Facebook and Twitter? In many cases the answer may be yes, but not always. Franco Veltri's insight:

Both Russia and Turkey are engaged in an Information battle. Russian propaganda is not aimed at persuading anyone, its aim is to disrupt Western narratives and to blur the borders between fact and fiction. So far without much success, as actions always speak louder than words.
