Raising agricultural productivity is a priority in much of sub-Saharan Africa, where some 70% of people live in rural areas and rely on farming. But 90% of the estimated 660,000 global deaths caused by malaria in 2010 were also in Africa, and agricultural development can play a role in its transmission. How should this be reconciled to create a more "malaria smart" approach to agricultural growth?

L'application 'Matibabu', développée par des étudiants ougandais, permet de diagnostiquer le paludisme sans passer par la case laboratoire. 

Imaginez un hôpital dans un téléphone. L'image peut sembler osée, mais c'est pourtant l'un des défis que se sont fixés Josiah Kavuma, Simon Lubambo, Joshua Businge et Brian Gitta. Ces étudiants ougandais ont développé l'application mobile Matibabu ("centre médical" en swahili) qui permet de diagnostiquer le paludisme sans besoin de prise de sang, sans piqûre, sans microscope et sans passer par un laboratoire médical.
