BIO, de Belgische Investeringsmaatschappij voor Ontwikkelingslanden, investeerde tien miljoen euro in een project voor energiegewassen in Sierra Leone.Totale kostenplaatje van het project is 267 miljoen euro, bijeengebracht door diverse financieringsinstellingen, waaronder de Afrikaanse Ontwikkelingsbank. Bedoeling is om in een eerste fase 10.000 hectare suikerrietplantages aan te planten voor een productiecapaciteit van 950.000 ton per jaar.
