Using the old approach to enterprise social networks isn’t working, according to the report:
“Most companies fail to understand that the new relationships created by enterprise social networks (ESN) are the source for value creation.”
The results showed that these social networks only had a moderate impact on business goals because companies were not good at measuring the effectiveness of their networks. A quarter of those surveyed admitted they had not measured their enterprise social networks at all.
The research suggests the reason some ESNs have not gained the traction expected is because it is seen as a technology deployment, merely focusing on adoption. The report suggests that organisations should be:
1. Encouraging sharing
2. Capturing knowledge
3. Enabling action
4. Empowering employees
