Courtney Jones's insight:

How Many Labels Do You Wear In Any Given Day?

I'm not talking about a logo splashed across a shirt or a pair of designer jeans.

Whether we realize it or not, the labels we carry around in our heads about ourselves and others can directly affect our levels of personal esteem and confidence.

Labels can help us feel safe. A way of identifying our place in the world.

Comparing ourselves to the status quo and seeing how we (or others) measure up.

How Do You Describe yourself and How Would Others Describe You?

Are You:

  • Attractive? Smart? Fun? Intelligent?
  • Popular? Single? Wealthy? Educated?
  • Overweight, Ugly, Violent? Broke?

Labels can help, but they can also limit and block an idea of what's possible for you or someone else.

While a label of "Smart" may motivate you to study or work harder;

How well does the label of "Fat" or "Lazy" work to help motivate you to exercise?

Our level of personal awareness determine the quality of the lense through which we see ourselves and the labels we allow ourselves to be attached to.

The labels we allow determine what we Be, Do, Have, and Become.

Courtney Jones helps entrepreneurs and cultural creatives clean out their mental closets, play nicely with others and create fun, thriving businesses that enhance their living and the lives of others.

Oculus Rift Used in Empathy Experiments: Step into Someone’s Views | Internal Evolution | Scoop.it

We’ve seen people use the Oculus Rift tosimulate beheadings. BeAnotherLab used the virtual reality headset for something less morbid but no less interesting. The organization’s The Machine to be Anotherwas an “artistic investigation” in which the Rift was used to give participants first person views from actual people.

Brene Brown on Shame & The Courage to be Vulnerable, by Krista Tippett

Brene Brown on Shame & The Courage to be Vulnerable, by Krista Tippett | Internal Evolution | Scoop.it
“ Do you remember the last time you felt completely vulnerable? It's a rather uncomfortable feeling that causes most people to rush through to a 'quick fix' -- desperate to avoid the discomforts of feeling exposed. We tend to view our vulnerability as a sign of weakness. But, what if the opposite were actually true? What if vulnerability was absolutely essential to wholehearted living? According to research professor, Brene Brown, vulnerability is not weakness. On the contrary it is "our most accurate measurement of courage." This interview shares more.”
Via Cathryn Wellner
Courtney Jones's insight:
So often there's a tendency to want to distance ourselves from shame. As if the realization that we can be vulnerable, not perfect, is cause for hiding our full selves. How much are we withholding from the world around us, and limiting our greatest self expression, by avoiding the exploration of our most courageous depths?

Conscious Living In Daily Life Series - The Art of Mysticism in Every Day Living

Conscious Living In Daily Life Series - The Art of Mysticism in Every Day Living | Internal Evolution | Scoop.it
The Art of Everyday Mysticism Living your life purpose with clarity, consciousness and in a bigger way takes courage, commitment, and a willingness to awaken to your own personal power.
Courtney Jones's insight:

How do you walk a spiritual path while living in the physical world? It can be difficult to balance a need for deep, personal communion when the outside world is yelling for your attention.

It's a question I struggled with for many years. Some of the answers I discovered through living were shared on my old blogtalk radio show.

The show is now defunct, and the links no longer go to my site, but the info is still very relevant. I hope you enjoy it.

This podcast aired May 5th, 20011.

I'll be back on the air starting February 26th on blog talk with a new show: 5th World Cafe, I do hope you'll join me & share your insights.

Shawn Achor: The happy secret to better work | Video on TED.com

We believe that we should work to be happy, but could that be backwards? In this fast-moving and entertaining talk, psychologist Shawn Achor argues that actually happiness inspires productivity.
Courtney Jones's insight:

Can Happiness Inspire More productivity?

Shawn Achor argues for eliminating the "Cult of Average".

Can we move society towards a greater awareness of our perspective towards "positive outliers" and other "weirdos" that think differently and don't fit in?

In this Ted Talk from 2012,; Achor, a positive psychology researcher and CEO of Goodthink, makes a compelling arguement for the recognition of our emphasis on dis-ease and unhappiness, even in the designing of healthy living.

Can we change the way we affect reallity by changing our current formulas for happiness and success?

Shawn Achor seems to think so....

Drew Dudley: Everyday leadership | Video on TED.com

We have all changed someone’s life -- usually without even realizing it. In this funny talk, Drew Dudley calls on all of us to celebrate leadership as the everyday act of improving each other’s lives.
Courtney Jones's insight:

7 Minutes That Can Change The Way You See Leadership

What an inspiring and fun talk!

Drew Dudley shares an eye-opening and perspective shifting viewpoint on the topic of leadership.

Takeaway:

  • We treat the title of leadership as something we're too ordinary to be deserving of.
  • We discount the moments where we are truly being leaders in our everyday lives.

Most of us will never truly be aware of the impact we make in other's lives daily.

How can we redefine our personal definition of leadership in a way that celebrates the small and sometimes random acts of inspiration, motivation, and irreverence that make up the characteristics of true leadership?
