From what i've read in this article, Google is using google earth to give the people of the earth more possibilitties. Google has done a great job by doing a street view hyperlapse of some places of the world. It helps disabled people to see places in the world that they cannot go to.

Jasmine Tan's curator insight, July 1, 2013 10:05 AM

From this article, I can see that technology is becoming more advanced and that it is helping humans a lot, even google maps is becoming more helpful to humans now. I think that technology improving used to be a ‘possibility” in the past but now it has became something in reality. This means that the possibility to achieve such good technology in the past has became reality. I wonder if technology will take over humans some day and that humans would become more reliant on technology, nothing is natural anymore.

Be A Hero: Five Steps to Vanquish Any Problem

Be A Hero: Five Steps to Vanquish Any Problem | Interesting Reading | Scoop.it
If you don´t see yourself as part of the problem, you cannot be part of the solution.

Every culture teaches this through a similar story. Joseph Campbell, anthropologist and advisor for Star Wars, called it “The Hero with a Thousand Faces.” The hero starts his journey feeling at the mercy of external circumstances. By the end, he realizes he is in control of his destiny. He knows that he can choose how to behave, learn and grow.

Heroes are not just mythical characters. They are examples of you at your best. Here are five suggestions to always remember who you are.

1. No problem -- Take the challenge

There is no such thing as a problem. What you call "a problem" is not a thing independent of you, but a situation you don´t like.

2. Drop “Who's responsible?” – Be response-able

You didn't do it. So what? You are suffering from it. People and things are out of control. It is tempting to blame them and play the part of the innocent victim. Don't. The price of innocence is impotence. That which you blame you empower. Become the hero of the story; focus on what you can do to respond to your challenge.

3. Forget what you don´t want – Focus on what you want.

Consider an issue that troubles you. What would you like to have happen?

4. Take one eye off the ball – Go for the gold.

It’s not about hitting the ball; it’s about winning the game. Set your mind on what you are ultimately trying to achieve. Build a chain from means to ends, taking you from getting the job, to advancing your career, to feeling professionally fulfilled, to being happy. The ultimate goal and measure of success is happiness.

5. Failure is not an option – Succeed beyond success.

Commit fully to achieve what you really want. Know that you deserve it and give it your best.

Explanation: How Brain Training Can Make You Significantly Smarter

Explanation: How Brain Training Can Make You Significantly Smarter | Interesting Reading | Scoop.it

As many people hit middle age, they often start to notice that their memory and mental clarity are not what they used to be.  We suddenly can't remember where we put the keys just a moment ago, or an old acquaintance's name, or the name of an old band we used to love.  As the brain fades, we euphemistically refer to these occurrences as "senior moments."

While seemingly innocent, this loss of mental focus can potentially have a detrimental impact on our professional, social, and personal well-being.

It happens to most of us, but is it inevitable?

I will definitely be sharing this with students and reminding myself that part of mental performance is blocking things out. I like the computer analogy. A faster processor is great. Letting an older computer focus on one important task can perform much better than the fast comptuer running 13 applications.

Shirley Marriott's comment, May 12, 2013 3:59 PM
This is one area that I can help with. I offer a variety of therapies which will help to reduce your stress levels and give you the much needed time out even 10 minutes and I offer these therapies not only in a variety of clinics but due to the lack of time people have I can come to the office environment. During the therapy you remain fully clothed and I work with you to cause the least disruption to the work being carried out. As little as 10 minutes can make a huge difference to a persons life. We think we have not got the time but can you really afford for the negative effects of stress to build up?
WorkplaceIncentives's curator insight, May 12, 2013 11:19 PM

Stress is often seen as the result of an event. The event causes stress. However this isn't true. We as individuals have the ability to control whether or not we 'get stressed'. It is in fact our perception of any event or 'thing' that may cause us to be stressed. Should we perceive an event in a positive light or choose to frame the event constructively, we can prevent ourselves from becoming stressed. As you're reading this insight you might be thinking that it may seem like we're stating the obvious and yet so many people, probably including yourself, get stressed on a regular basis...

Jesse Wieser's curator insight, May 20, 2013 7:43 PM

My thoughts

After reading this article, I find the mini-relaxation plans suggested are a huge help when your running on little to no time and just need a quick breather. The relaxation plan in this article goes into detail about what can you do to relieve some stress in 1 minute, 2 minutes, 3 minutes, etc. which can be very helpful even trying these plans in between classes on account of the fact school can be very stressful at times. What I enjoyed the most about this article is the 2 minute relaxation plan, where I'll be taking 1 deep breath for every number I count down too since deep-breathing helps relieves stress and some of the bad toxins in your body.
