18 Things Highly Creative People Do Differently

18 Things Highly Creative People Do Differently | Interesting Reading | Scoop.it

Creativity works in mysterious and often paradoxical ways. Creative thinking is a stable, defining characteristic in some personalities, but it may also change based on situation and context. Inspiration and ideas often arise seemingly out of nowhere and then fail to show up when we most need them, and creative thinking requires complex cognition yet is completely distinct from the thinking process.

Edison reportedly said at the time: "Thank goodness all our mistakes were burned up. Now we can start again fresh."

10 Steps To Effective Listening

10 Steps To Effective Listening | Interesting Reading | Scoop.it

In today’s high-tech, high-speed, high-stress world, communication is more important then ever, yet we seem to devote less and less time to really listening to one another. Genuine listening has become a rare gift—the gift of time. It helps build relationships, solve problems, ensure understanding, resolve conflicts, and improve accuracy. At work, effective listening means fewer errors and less wasted time. At home, it helps develop resourceful, self-reliant kids who can solve their own problems. Listening builds friendships and careers. It saves money and marriages.

There's a big difference between telling a story and living a story. Some marketers and those in branding are still grappling with this distinction. But this article can help understand this dynamic and how to move forward.

The post by Sebastian Buck and Brian Hardwick for Fast Company discusses how marketing is changing. Telling a brand story is only the first step. What marketing and brand storytelling actually live a story they are setting in motion new stories to be told that can bring incredible change.

But everyone needs to get their heads wrapped around working differently in order to have new stories being told about a business. It's all about going for a co-created experience that makes a difference in the world.

The authors talk about how having a big shared goal + creativity + connectivity = a big impact.

It's a short article, but carries great insights for us about how storytelling is continuing to change marketing and branding (IMHO).

Healthy eating in midlife helps stave off dementia.

Healthy eating in midlife helps stave off dementia. | Interesting Reading | Scoop.it

Eating right in midlife may prevent dementia later on, according to a new study published by the University of Eastern Finland. Results indicated those who consistently consumed healthy foods at the average age of 50 had a nearly 90% lower risk of dementia in a 14-year follow-up study compared to those who did not eat healthfully.

Ivo Nový's insight:

The Alzheimer's Association recommends increasing intake of "protective foods" to maintain a healthy brain. These include dark-skinned fruits and vegetables such as prunes, raisins, red grapes, plums, blueberries, cherries, broccoli, spinach, kale, onion, red bell pepper, beets and eggplant. Nuts such as almonds, walnuts and pecans are also recommended, as are cold-water fish such as trout, salmon, tuna, mackerel and halibut. Increasing intake of vitamins such as C, E, folate and B12 is also considered helpful.
