Despite a rather regressive stance on homosexuality (sodomy carries a 10 year jail sentence), Jamaica is finally loosening its position on marijuana by legalising its possession, in small quantities.

 

This follows a general worldwide movement towards greater acceptance and finally legalisation of the substance (as 25 countries around the world have decriminalised possession, and even one country and two state have fully legalised possession- Uruguay, and Colorado and Washington)

It holds water, which makes me shake my head at the millions of people around the world who receive convictions for possession of this silly substance.

"Only 3 of every 100,000 Swedes dying on the roads each year, compared with 5.5 per 100,000 across the European Union, 11.4 in America and 40 in the Dominican Republic, which has the world's deadliest traffic." 

 

"Road deaths of children under seven have plummeted—in 2012 only one was killed, compared with 58 in 1970."

 

Success based on multiple-solution approach including but not limited to: '2+1' road system where middle lane is ONLY for over-taking; lower speed limits; flashing lights in barrier-ed pedestrian zones; and increased awareness.
