Toronto filmmaker and game designer Thomas Wallner's DEEP Inc. is working with Ryerson to create software for a virtual reality movie-viewing experience.

"By wearing a VR headset to watch projects made with 360-degree cameras, a movie will seem to flow all around the viewer, opening the door for filmmakers to express themselves differently and engage audiences in new ways.

(...) Gamers are enthusiastically embracing VR, said Wallner. Now it’s the filmmakers’ turn."

Can we measure the impact of an i-doc? Kat Cizek in the last episode of the UX Series - i-Docs | Interactive possibilities | Scoop.it

What is the time-frame we should consider in the evaluation? Is it about the number of people exposed to our message? Is it about telling others about our documentary and issue? It …

As we approach the Future Documentary Showcase on March 19, I'm looking forward to the unveiling of the ground-breaking work that the teams have been developing over the last six months.

In dialogue with the producers at the monthly workshops, we've watched as the collaborations have grappled with challenges around design and storytelling, and seen the projects evolve from initial idea to their current, brilliant forms....

Music Timeline

Music Timeline | Interactive possibilities | Scoop.it
i-Docs's insight:

"The Music Timeline shows genres of music waxing and waning, based on how many Google Play Music users have an artist or album in their music library, and other data (such as album release dates). Each stripe on the graph represents a genre; the thickness of the stripe tells you roughly the popularity of music released in a given year in that genre. (For example, the "jazz" stripe is thick in the 1950s since many users' libraries contain jazz albums released in the '50s.) Click on the stripes to zoom into more specialized genres."

Ana Cristina Pratas's curator insight, January 14, 2014 12:09 PM

Every day, all over the world, ordinary people must flee their homes for fear of death or persecution. Many leave without notice, taking only what they can carry. Many will never return. They cross oceans and minefields, they risk their lives and their futures. When they cross international borders they are called refugees.

The Refugee Project is an interactive map of refugee migrations around the world in each year since 1975. UN data is complemented by original histories of the major refugee crises of the last four decades, situated in their individual contexts.
