Toronto filmmaker and game designer Thomas Wallner's DEEP Inc. is working with Ryerson to create software for a virtual reality movie-viewing experience.
"By wearing a VR headset to watch projects made with 360-degree cameras, a movie will seem to flow all around the viewer, opening the door for filmmakers to express themselves differently and engage audiences in new ways.

Recollections is an experiment in digital time travel. In the mid 19th century, a form of three dimensional photography called steroscopy was invented. By taking two photos at the same time side by side, the illusion of depth was created when viewed through devices called stereoscopes.
Now there exist ways to create 3d models from photographs. This technique is called photogrammetry. The future of photogrammetry has wide implications for virtual and augmented reality. The minimum number of photographs needed to make a computer generated model is two, i.e. a stereographic set of images.
By feeding 100 year old stereograms into modern computer algorithms, we can recreate 3D models of the subject of those photographs. When viewed through modern stereo graphic displays such as the Oculus Rift, a form of digital time travel is achieved
