Waterfall Swing Lets Riders Pass Through Water Without Getting Wet

Waterfall Swing Lets Riders Pass Through Water Without Getting Wet | Interactive Exhibits | Scoop.it

As the rider reaches the path of the water, the water parts briefly—providing a safe passage for the rider to swing back and forth. The Waterfall Swing uses 273 solenoid valves at the top of the structure to create the wall of water. Sensors mounted on the swing set calculate the angle and speed of each swing—sending the information to a computer that predicts the rider’s action. Once the rider approaches the water path, the computer instructs the valves to be switched off—allowing the rider to swing through without getting wet.

An Interactive Cloud Made of 6,000 Light Bulbs

An Interactive Cloud Made of 6,000 Light Bulbs | Interactive Exhibits | Scoop.it

CLOUD is a large scale interactive installation by artist Caitlind r.c. Brown that appeared September 15th as part of Nuit Blanche Calgary in Alberta, Canada. The piece is made from 1,000 working lightbulbs on pullchains and an additional 5,000 made from donated burnt out lights donated by the public. Visitors to the installation could pull the chains causing the cloud to sort of shimmer and flicker, I can’t tell you how much I would have enjoyed seeing this up close or at least on video. Did anyone film it? Learn more about it on the project website, and if you liked this also check out Wang Yuyang’s Artificial Moon. (via my eclectic depiction of life)

The City as Lifesize Monopoly Board

The City as Lifesize Monopoly Board | Interactive Exhibits | Scoop.it

Monopoly can be a viable training tool for success in the real estate market. The game is much like real life – walking down blocks, passing different train stations and neighborhoods, seeing the Water Works in the distance. So it's kind of appropriate that a street artist in Chicago has been installing elements of the board onto the actual streets of the city...

How a science exhibit is born at the Exploratorium

How a science exhibit is born at the Exploratorium | Interactive Exhibits | Scoop.it

Upstairs at the Exploratorium, exhibit developer Eric Socolofsky paused from packing boxes on Wednesday to show physicist co-worker Paul Doherty a weird video he had taken the day before.

The 10-second video started with two distinct shadows - Socolofsky in profile and his wife right next to him. Like magic, his chin stretched like clay until it touched the other shadow even though the couple in real life had not moved or touched.

"What is happening?" Socolofsky asked.

Doherty shook his head knowingly and explained that a shadow is fuzzy around the edges even if it doesn't look like it, and when it connects with the fuzzy edge of another shadow, they merge.

The co-workers laughed and envisioned kids and adults interacting with a light display and weird, stretchy shadows.

And that, they said, is pretty much how an exhibit is born.

Harrison Meagher's curator insight, March 14, 2014 9:13 PM

Another example within the interactive gaming industry, this article and clip shows a new next-gen interactive gaming platform and the diversity that this field of technology is branching out into.

The combination of classic "tabletop" game play with new emerging touch, sense and wireless innovations shows not only creative but exciting aspects of this industry.

It portrays the lack of fear that companies have in terms of making new and unique products that pave the path and really shows what we are to expect in years to come.
