Worth contemplating: Cooperation is not collaboration! | Intelligent Organizations | Scoop.it

In an organization to keep the system in equilibrium and ensure that the company can repeatedly and predictably deliver customer value propositions and still meet their much desired profit formula it is necessary that there are business rules, standards of behavior and evaluation of success.

4 reasons to focus on collective intelligence

4 reasons to focus on collective intelligence | Intelligent Organizations | Scoop.it

For as long as we can look back, people made decisions after sitting down as departments, partners, maybe a board, or a leadership team going back and forth until they “thought” they had the best decision.

A new environment is emerging and it’s not just based on a small group of people making decisions that they think are “smart”. Instead, it is based on a large group of people coming together to make significantly smarter decisions. And if you’re a business and haven’t heard of this you better consider it and fast!

Online gamers have achieved a feat beyond the realm of Second Life or World of Warcraft: they have deciphered the structure of an enzyme of an AIDS-like virus that had thwarted scientists for a decade.

Network Learning

Network Learning | Intelligent Organizations | Scoop.it

It seems more and more there is a blurring in the formal and informal learning divide and this helps to shape the argument for understanding the culture of collaboration in education further. While most of us are wedded to the notion of informal and formal learning, Jane Hart provides an insightful deconstruction that factors intentionality, context and agency aspects of learning

EN - Blog - Small note on Collective Intelligence using Hexagrams | Intelligent Organizations | Scoop.it

This diagram shows essentially that a sustainable collective intelligence implies a continuous exchange of resources between the six kinds of human capitals. How can we develop methods to measure the value of the six kinds of human capitals and their flow of exchange? How can we extract these measurements from the analysis (preferably automatic) of data and online transactions of a given community or of a network of communities?

EN - Blog - Smart Working in Turbulent Times | The Smart Work Company | Intelligent Organizations | Scoop.it

The series, Smart Working in Turbulent Times, will include themes that I have talked about before in previous blog posts in a random way. My hope is that this series will pull topics together to create a rationale for smart working, to explore what it is, to make the case for why now (urgently) and to show how smart working practices can be enabled, drawing on researching new ways of working over a fifteen year period and years of practical experience of helping senior executives make the transition to new ways of working.

EN - Article - How Dell Really Listens to its Customers | Intelligent Organizations | Scoop.it
Walking away from a dizzying day of intense and interesting brainstorming on how to use social media to better cement Dell with its customers I found myself thinking that effective use of social media is no longer an after-thought or a luxury. It is an important channel between vendors and customers, and usually works more quickly and directly than other channels into their support organizations. Dell's commitment to social media is sizable, but is already paying great dividends. I can only hope other vendors will increase their investments in these tools and technologies, and shorten their paths from start to finish in typical customer support encounters.

EN - Article - Working Smarter in the Enterprise | Intelligent Organizations | Scoop.it
Work is no longer just doing just what is in your job description.
In 1986, 75% of the knowledge that a worker needed was stored in their heads.
By 2006, that number was estimated to be 9%. The needed information is no longer in the worker’s mind but it is “out there” in the minds of others.
The need for personal, informal networks – to be able to find information — has never been greater.

EN - Article - OrgIntel: Organisational intelligence for finding and influencing your stakeholders

EN - Article - OrgIntel: Organisational intelligence for finding and influencing your stakeholders | Intelligent Organizations | Scoop.it
As information professionals in organisations, we have two choices. We can wait for people to discover us. We usually end up disappointed: “Why don’t they see the value we provide?”

The other choice is to be “proactive” (to use an overused word). We can take steps to make sure that the people in our organisation know about the value we provide.

It is in this vein that I put forth a perspective of “organisational intelligence”, or “OrgIntel”. OrgIntel is about finding, and actively pursuing, the key groups and stakeholders you need to connect with in your organisation. It’s not quite stalking – but it’s the next best thing.

In this article, I’ll talk about four components of the concept of OrgIntel:

Searching for clues
Finding the pulse
Beyond the organisation chart
Visibility and openness.

Why the Impossible Happens More Often

Why the Impossible Happens More Often | Intelligent Organizations | Scoop.it

One could exhaustively study a honey bee for centuries and never see in the lone individual any of the behavior of a bee hive. it is just not there, and can not emerge until there are a mass of bees. A single bee lives 6 weeks, so a memory of several years is impossible, but that's how long a hive of individual bees can remember. Humanity is migrating towards its hive mind. Most of what "everybody knows" about us is based on the human individual. Collectively, connected humans will be capable of things we cannot imagine right now. These future phenomenon will rightly seem impossible. What's coming is so unimaginable that the impossibility of wikipedia will recede into outright obviousness.

WORKING TOGETHER
We shape our self
to fit this world

and by the world
are shaped again.

The visible
and the invisible

working together
in common cause,

to produce
the miraculous.

I am thinking of the way
the intangible air

passed at speed
round a shaped wing

easily
holds our weight.

So may we, in this life
trust

to those elements
we have yet to see

or imagine,
and look for the true

shape of our own self
by forming it well

to the great
intangibles about us.

~ David Whyte ~

EN - Blog - Information overload: an urban myth? | Intelligent Organizations | Scoop.it
This is like blaming obesity on food. “Gee, there’s so much food out there, it I ate it all, I’d get really fat.” If we talked about obesity as a ‘food overload’, it would sound pretty silly. Though our general abundance is certainly an enabling factor, most people realize that you have to eat intelligently and selectively to stay healthy.

Maybe it’s time for a Chief Focus Officer.

EN - Blog - On Social Media Becoming Social Business | Intelligent Organizations | Scoop.it
These two events signal the shift that's coming. The age of social media as something spontaneous that reflects how we behave in the real world (the Weiner approach) is coming to an end. We are entering an age of social business: a purposeful, planned, orchestrated, and integrated way of doing business in a social context which may feel personal to the outside world but combine complexities internally within organizations that will need navigating. As further evidence to the shift, one can look to technology for yet another clue.
