Years ago, I first came across an introductory page in a book by Ida Rolf with the title: Admonition For 1977. It’s one of those pieces that has sat in the back of my mind over the past 35 years, especially when I get tangled up in my own righteousness and knowing.
After 48 years of life and more than 20 years treating my patients as a family doctor, I have come to understand that health and happiness come from within. We all have inside ourselves an intuitive knowing and a powerful healing force. When I access these, I am healthier, happier and more alive. This blog is for anyone interested in a MINDBODY approach to health.
This wonderful piece was written by Milas Page - it is inspiring, it is true and it's what's is happening to many people as a result of interacting in social media.
The author talks about the "social mindset" connecting as human beings is what gets you in the door......
Here are some highlights:
**The Social Mindset sees the value in collaboration
**The Social Mindset cares about others – be it your customers, your employees, or your partners
**The Social Mindset lays the groundwork for the importance of listening
**The Social Mindset leads you to realize you can help – therefore makes you open to helping when an opportunity arises
**The Social Mindset surrounds you with positive thinking and empowers you to realize you can make a change
What's the point, she asks? I'm quoting Milas because I couldn't have said it better..........
An interaction like the she refers to in this piece is between her and another person whom in the past she would have closed the door but social media has made her see people in a different light.
"Tirelessly one door at a time, trying to activate communities. Now an interaction like that can not only reach me, it can reach you.
Messages amplified, reach expanding.Making the human connection is what get’s you in the door."
** "Then think about the implications this has in our world, I believe it has many and it’s a good thing. Companies and people who embrace social as a mindset will change this world, one person – one cause, one workplace at a time"
“The world is getting richer, healthier, better educated, more peaceful, and better connected, and people are living longer; yet half the world is potentially unstable,” according to Jerome C. Glenn, CEO of The Millennium Project and co-author of the “2012 State of the Future,” an overview of our global situation, problems, solutions, and prospects for the future.
Researchers at University of Western Ontario and the Lawson Health Research Institute have found that functional changes within a key brain network occur directly after a 30-minute session of noninvasive, neurofeedback training.

"Over the course of 6 months, we asked people from all over the world to send videos of themselves feeling their heartbeat and thinking about what it means. This is the film that unfolded...
Brain Power: From Neurons to Networks is a 10-minute film and accompanying TED Book from award-winning Director Tiffany Shlain and her team at The Moxie Institute. Based on new research on how to best nurture children’s brains from Harvard University’s Center on the Developing Child and University of Washington’s I-LABS, the film explores the parallels between a child’s brain development and the development of the global brain of Internet, offering insights into the best ways to shape both. Made through a new crowd-sourcing creativity process the Moxie team calls “Cloud Filmmaking,” Brain Power was created by putting into action the very ideas that the film is exploring: the connections between neurons, networks, and people around the world."
Environmental Working Group (EWG) works to protect kids from toxic chemicals in our food, water, air and the products we use every day. We use research to help create federal policies that protect our children, our health, and our natural resources.

It is still a challenge to be myself, in that most people will not understand why I do what I do. That is unimportant. I have spent my life discovering what makes me most happy -- without tampering with the happiness of others.
"New research on the brain in the past 10 years has shed a light on how much past experience and the desire to avoid pain shapes our brain pathways. Our brains were designed first and foremost to help us survive and pass on our genes, and therefore have automatic negative biases and orientations towards danger. We automatically scan our worlds for past mistakes we dare not repeat and future threats we try desperately to avoid and prepare to deal with. In so doing, we lose touch with present-moment experience and limit our abilities to spontaneously experience positive states such as joy, connection, and love. Teaching ourselves to focus on the present moment can train our brain pathways towards more deliberate and positive experiencing."
