Connecting - the future of Interaction Design

Via Hans
James McCarthy's insight:

This is a great way to describe the negative ane positive of interactivity. If we're being interupted or not present, technolgy really doesn't connect us. Content and context should always enhance your present moment, otherwise, it's an interuption. This is a tough task for brands, and another reason why brands MUST offer something besides a cheap sales pitch...This creates a consumer that is angry and annoyed, not participating. If you want participation, you better damn well give me something to care about besides your sales pitch. Perhaps, a better way to think about it is, brands must actually create their own entertainment experience, or an experience that adds or enhances the consumers lives.

Along with our growing online presence we interact with more and more connected devices in "Internet of things". We discover new interaction technologies and implement them around us to augment our abilities in life. Wireless networks, sensors, context aware software and new kind of user interfaces among other innovations will create an ecosystem with humans in the center. This new era has many opportunities, but we must ask ourselves: What is really important? This short documentary is GREAT and it made me think in new directions - where the future of UX has greater purposes.

Designing digital experiences requires influences from different perspectives along the development process. That's why fruitful collaboration is one of the essential ingredients in creative environments. Everyone involved must aim for the same goal, communicate seamlessly between disciplines and encourage each other in order to deliver the best solutions. If we learn how to think together, then we can create collective intelligence with greater capacity than individual minds.
