Hell Pizza under fire over condom promotion - National - NZ Herald News

Hell Pizza under fire over condom promotion - National - NZ Herald News | Integrated Marketing Communications 2014 | Scoop.it
Hell Pizza's latest condom promotion has fuelled public anger and brought about 30 complaints to the Advertising Standards Authority in a matter of hours. - New Zealand Herald
Dilan Jivan's insight:

Heard about this in class and decided to find out more about it.

The pizza company included condoms in a mail-out to promote its "Lust" pizza. The small pamphlet advertising the Lust pizza contains a condom, and explicit instructions on how to use the condom during sex.

They received more than 30 complaints in just a few hours this morning. It was said that complainants were concerned about the access children could have to the condoms.

This was very controversial but gave them great exposure in NZ and i feel like Hell Pizza would not be so successful today if that had not have happened. After all, IMC is about brand positioning and after all, it worked. So well done to them!

This article gives great insight into what role IMC actually has in creating or maintaining brand identity.

A brands identity doesn't just stop at the products it sells or its logo, a brands identity is the consumers complete awareness of everything the brand has to offer. IMC plays a huge role in creating a brands identity as IMC is what helps communicate the logo, products, associations etc with the consumers and is therefore a crucial part of  building the brands identity in the consumers mind.

How McDonald’s Came Back Bigger Than Ever | Integrated Marketing Communications 2014 | Scoop.it
With new food, revamped décor and an embrace of mommy blogs, McDonald’s isn’t just trying to keep its customers. It’s trying to convince skeptics that they’re wrong.

Dilan Jivan's insight:

I agree with charlotte here, McDonalds are always in some sort of controversy no matter what they do, but still they always outdo themselves and remain a key player in the market worldwide!

McDonalds is a brand that knows how to work their IMC's to overcome any situation. A brand that is often overcome with criticism, from workers pay to the ingredients used within their establishments, they always seem to come out on top. Although there huge marketing and advertisement budget may come into it, their strong strategy ability to respond quickly with new IMC's has enabled them to keep coming back stronger each time.

'Cadbury Dream Factory' promises tears

'Cadbury Dream Factory' promises tears | Integrated Marketing Communications 2014 | Scoop.it
New series 'Cadbury Dream Factory' is all about spreading the joy and making Kiwis wishes come true. We talked to host Brooke Howard Smith about what to expect from the 'Dream Factory' team and how you might need to stock up on your tissues in advance of its debut.
Dilan Jivan's insight:

Is Cadbury Dream Factory really about creating dreams? or creating brand image?

They say that "This is definitely a test to see if people want to watch an hour of good, happy TV with their family, if there’s still a market for television that doesn’t include all of those things that are kind of the TV staples now which are drama, controversy, bitchiness, sex, drugs and violence, there’s none of that in the show."

yeah ok sure, but how many people are actually viewing the show? From my perspective i see Cadbury trying to give themselves a new image of "good" to try and completely get rid of the Palm Oil controversay a few years ago. They have applied good IMC here by trying to give themselves a positive brand image, but who knows what their true intentions are. Are we being fooled?  YOU BE THE DECIDER.

Taylor Ni's curator insight, May 11, 2014 2:34 AM

Cadbury Dream Factory is a New Zealand reality show where audiences can submit their dreams through the "Cadbury Dream" website. With the sponsership with Cadbury, the show brings people's dreams to life in extraordinary ways.

Cadbury dream factory has done pretty well in promoting on websites and social media. First of all, the Cadbury created a entry on its official website where people can submit their dreams. By doing this, consumers are well-engaged with this event, they all want their dreams come true. At the meantime, the show will have a lot of sources to film. Second of all, there is a link on Cadbury's official website. People can click it and they will be linked to the Cadbury dream factory show website. Browsing the TV3 Cadbury dream factory show webiste, you will see all types of social media related to the show, which includes facebook, twitter and even spotify. Basically, the pictures of the episodes will be uploaded to facebook to keep reminding people of the dreams. The twitter allows people to hashtag 'dreamfactory' and tweet their dreams. Apart from thoes two common social media platforms, it's interestng to see the show uses spotify. The spotify soundtrack list allows people to listen to the music where it plays in the show, which might remind them of the scene in the episode they like. All of these promotions and activities on websites and social media help reinforce the show and the brand, meanwhile it also builds a strong relationship with consumers and audiences.

What Does Ellen's Tweet Heard 'Round the World Mean for Marketers?

What Does Ellen's Tweet Heard 'Round the World Mean for Marketers? | Integrated Marketing Communications 2014 | Scoop.it
Social Media - For marketers, the highlight of the 2014 Academy Awards was Ellen DeGeneres's selfie tweet, taken with a sponsor's smartphone. Here's what the most popular tweet ever can teach marketers.
Dilan Jivan's insight:

As I am sure you all know by now that Ellen Degeneres's World Famous selfie broke the record for most retweeted photo and tweet on Twitter. This was great IMC for her and for all the people in the photo as she gained talk world wide which led to her increasing her followers on Twitter and therefore gaining her more popularity and publicity for her talkshow which would have given her increased revenue for a short period of time but she will now forever be stuck in peoples minds of her actions and therefore this would have given her long term "brand" equity.

As for the other people in the photo such as Bradley Cooper, Jennifer Lawrence, Angelina Jolie, Meryl Streep, Brad Pitt, Jared Leto, and other actors from '12 Years a slave'  this will give their movies such as 12 years a slave, American Hustle an increase in revenue and long term name recognition. And what better place was it to do this at the Oscars - where movies are celebrated.

Also it was great IMC for Samsung as the next day they announced that they were donating $1 for every retweet. The current number of retweets is 3,423,243. And so this is good publicity for Samsung as they will gain more respect from customers and will give them positive Goodwill towards their name.

Overall. Ellen made a very smart business decision during the Oscars and IMC was so relevant in this scenario.

Chicken added to Georgie Pie menu - Business - NZ Herald News

Chicken added to Georgie Pie menu - Business - NZ Herald News | Integrated Marketing Communications 2014 | Scoop.it
McDonald's is re-introducing another item to its Georgie Pie menu, with the Chicken `N' Vegetable option available from tomorrow. - New Zealand Herald
Dilan Jivan's insight:

IMC AND CRM was used in a good way here by McDonalds as they used their Facebook page in New Zealand to have a vote of which new pie they should re introduce next to to steak and cheese pie.

They said it had been "inundated'' with customer requests for other pies after last year relaunching Georgie Pie with the Steak Mince `N' Cheese variety.

By having customers involved with the decison process, it makes them feel involved and allows them to have a say of their needs and wants they wish to fulfill. Most of their customers are linked to their facebook page and the number of followers is a good amount compared to the amount of people in NZ. Social media has allowed people to have their say on what they want to eat and created a buzz and hype online which is a great use of IMC and CRM!!

This can all lead to increased sales buzzed and short term revenue gain and long term brand equity

Here are some tips to make sure you're attracting the right audience.
Dilan Jivan's insight:

This article came in extremely helpful when writing my critical analysis this week. I agree with what has been said as if your brands twitter has the wrong people being exposed to your tweets, then what is the point in investing valuable time into it.

'You can easily reel in the target audience by providing unique and original content that is not available elsewhere. Try to be the first to post important news and updates and get  the right and accurate information from reliable sources. Tweet regularly and provide updates as necessary." This part from the article was true as if you want strong brand positioning, then yo must be unique in order to monoploise the market in which you are in

Why Blogs (Still) Matter For Social Entrepreneurs

Why Blogs (Still) Matter For Social Entrepreneurs | Integrated Marketing Communications 2014 | Scoop.it
When social entrepreneurs ask me about a digital media strategy, the first words out of my mouth are often these: "start a blog, today, right now." They sometimes look at me like I teleported in from the mists of 2006, but I always stick to that advice. Blogs are still [...]

Dilan Jivan's insight:

Great Article here, blogs can be used to express your business the way you want.

i agree with you here jola in which you said 'Bloging can be a very valuable and affective way of reaching customers. It keeps a positive spotlight on the brand as you are the one that controls what is said'.

In marcoms it is good to create that relationships with customers and by blogging, this can be a simple, easy and cheap way! Highly recommend having a blog!

Jola Lynch's curator insight, April 13, 2014 7:14 AM

Social entrepreneurs are often stuck for marketing ideas. What this article suggests is that there is no better place to start then with a blog.

Blogs open so many avenues being able to share links and posts with other like minded people can also gain lots of coverage of the brand and keep older customers engaged.

Starting a blog involves telling your own story, running your own press, making authenticity matter, inviting conversation and engagement and having a space that allows social medial personal to focus on digital media.

Bloging can be a very valuable and affective way of reaching customers. It keeps a positive spotlight on the brand as you are the one that controls what is said. In marketing communications it is important to create that interpersonal relationship with customers and no better way to do it then directly talking to the customers and encouraging conversation about the brand and relevant products.

'Game Of Thrones' Fans Can Tear Down A Giant King Joffrey Statue Using Twitter

'Game Of Thrones' Fans Can Tear Down A Giant King Joffrey Statue Using Twitter | Integrated Marketing Communications 2014 | Scoop.it
In preparation for Sunday’s premiere of “Game of Thrones,” New Zealand’s SKY TV has erected a giant statue of the most-hated man in Westeros — King Joffrey.
Dilan Jivan's insight:

As I am sure by now you will know that Game of Thrones is a massive success worldwide, and with preparation for the fourth season to air, SKYTV NZ has launched a giant statue of the shwos most hated man and are using IMC by making people use the #BringDownTheKing.

Every time the hashtag is used, it causes a rope wrapped around the statue to pull tighter and tighter until the statue crumbles to the ground.

This is a great way to promote the show and create a buzz amoung the people following the cause! GREAT IMC!!

3 ways Facebook is failing us

3 ways Facebook is failing us | Integrated Marketing Communications 2014 | Scoop.it
As someone who relies on Facebook as both a user and a customer, I'm frustrated.
Dilan Jivan's insight:

Many people say that social media platforms are an amazing way to get your brand known. I agree but after reading this article made me question myself... Is Facebook actually a good example of IMC?

You would think that having your brands own page on Facebook would mean it is purely and soley for your business?... well think again. Facebooks forever changing updates have now begun showing suggested pages ... OF YOUR COMPETITORS OF SIMILAR PRODUCTS!This can be such a waste of time and money spent on developing your page!

What is the point of making your page unique and establishing your own image when your competitors are sitting there teasing you.

I personally think Facebook is too big and have other things to deal with rather than to deal with this. So to have effective IMC I would suggest Twitter over Facebook at this point in time.

Marketing with Tumblr: Learn how 26 businesses useTumblr and gain insights into how you can include Tumblr in your social media marketing today.
Dilan Jivan's insight:

According to Forbs,  120,000 new Tumblr blogs are created every day, totaling 86 million that drive 18 billion page views per month. Imagine how much audience views your brand and products will get! Tumblr is a good form of IMC

Pictures that get reblogged by other blogs can be seen by people who follow that blog and if there is an exciting and creative picture or post that grabs ones attention then it can get amazing coverage all over the world and will no doubt give you global recognition which can be good.

Take brands like HUF, BLK and ARIZONA ICE TEA. There is pictures all over tumblr of these brands and what it does it they are taken in a creative way which makes you want and desire the brand and then when you see the brand in a shop or online you have an urge to buy it. This has happened to me with the brand HUF. HUF is a clothing brand that sells mainly hats and socks and then when i saw a HUF hat i automatically decided I NEEDED it and so i purchased it all thanks to Tumblr.

To Me, tumblr is a great form of IMC as it gives them financial gains and long term brand equity as long as their pictures are reblogged and seen by the audience they are promoting to.
