How Course Design Puts the Focus on Learning Not Teaching

How Course Design Puts the Focus on Learning Not Teaching | Diseño instruccional | Scoop.it

... a fresh, new perspective is needed for teaching and course design—course design is about creating environments to help students learn. As new courses are developed or transformed from face-to-face to an online format, the focus should not be on the technology, the platform, the video lectures, the forums, the instructor, but on the students —what methods will facilitate their learning? How will they learn?

Miguel Morales's comment, May 21, 2013 11:30 AM

Excellent article about the differences in the Pedagogic models: xMOOCs and cMOOCs, followed by two Coursera courses.

Anne Whaits's curator insight, March 7, 2013 12:59 PM

A really good post which argues that it is the learning orientation that determines the pedagogical method selected for instruction. The comparision of pedagogical methods employed in two courses on Coursera reveal the clashes between the views on how people learn.

"We need to teach knowledge or content in context with the tasks and activities the students are undertaking. Our students respond well to real world problems. Our delivery of knowledge should scaffold the learning process and provide a foundation for activities. As we know from the learning pyramid content delivered without context or other activity has a low retention rate."

Pricila Kohls's comment, April 22, 2013 11:02 AM
Concordo!
