Is there no need for a common minimum? It looks great the idea of a personal "playlist" of education topics, but if education should not give you something in common with the people you leave with, how can we built a common thing a "res publicas". Which are the boundaries or restriction of a total customized education? Every one will have the same liberty? even little kids? Even poor people? Even people with disabilities who need help to learn?

There's quite a long review and brief tutorial of Roon here: http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/roon-is-a-slick-easy-to-use-blogging-platform-you-may-want-to-try/ I particularly like the comment in the summary "Sometimes we get caught up in complex blogging platforms, plugins and more. Roon takes all of that away and ensures that you focus on what matters the most – your words." A rich feature set isn't always an advantage. Roon certainly isn't a competitor to WordPress, but it does make it easy to just get down to writing. For students that can be quite an advantage.
Tracee Orman's curator insight, August 4, 2013 6:14 AM

I just tried Roon out and made a post (on my Mac, by the way). I wanted to try it to see if it was something to share with students. It was pretty easy, though figuring out how to change the title of the post from "Untitled" was frustrating (I assumed the "Header" was the title...not so. You just click on it after you save and can change it in the sidebar.).

I'm not sure what the point of giving your blog a title was when it posts as your user name and never shows your blog title. My advice: use your blog title as your user name.

Not sure if I will use this with my students, but it is a simple and easy format. And free. Here's my simplistic post: http://mrsorman.roon.io/untitled

FOR CLASSROOM CLIMATE PLAN: Technology is definitely something I find important for a 21st century classroom climate. Many PBL Projects involve technology and this image provides suggested apps that can allow teachers to cultivate virtual spaces for their classroom. I especially think the National Geographic and TED apps could be particularly useful because they provide a wealth of resources for classroom projects. I would like to make the use of technology routine in my classroom and expand our spaces to include both the physical and virtual spaces available to students.

Melissa Marshall's curator insight, August 10, 6:49 PM

There are hundreds of apps here: the list is a bit Americanised but very useful. The apps are sorted into categories and rough year levels.

How To Create A Paperless Classroom With Your iPad

How To Create A Paperless Classroom With Your iPad | Instructional Technology Tools | Scoop.it

"The idea of a paperless classroom is not new.

In fact, there was recently one very good blog, TeachPaperless, dedicated to this very idea. In short, the idea promotes not just a reduction of paper and other physical resources, but rather a more efficient workflow, quicker communication, improved access to learning materials, seamless digital portfolios, and more naturally connected student-teacher-student networks."

It is still a wonder to me why in this day of technological advancement, that there isn't a laptop or tablet on every desk in every school across the nation. Technology, need to be integrated more with the teaching and learning of our students.
