5 Great Apps for Assessing with Quizzes | Instructional Technology Tools | Scoop.it

"Assessment reports and online grading tools take away the tedious task of collecting and grading quizzes, as well as provide educators with spreadsheet-style assessment results that can focus on the student, the question, or even the topic. To help bring solutions to the classroom, our Teq PD team created this eBook, to inform you about some of our favorite and most useful assessment apps."

Certainly not my favourite way of assessing but a useful way of seeing progress. I sometimes use quizzes as formative assessment and sometimes as a pre assessment to gauge current knowledge.

When most of us think about creating a video, the first thing we think of is a camera. This is natural, given our early exposure to television and movies, as well as the proliferation of low-cost video cameras, such as Flip and GoPro cameras and our omnipresent smartphones.

But in reality, the video constant is the screen—not the camera. All videos will be viewed, but not all are shot. Obviously, I’m drawing the distinction here between live-action videos and animated videos.

Having decided that video would be right for a given training deliverable, how do you then determine if live-action or animated is the way to go?

Self-Directed Learning Well Explained and 27 Actions

Self-Directed Learning Well Explained and 27 Actions | Instructional Technology Tools | Scoop.it

TeachThought.com has a series of posts about self-directed learning by Terry Heick and the staff, well worth a read! “

“Learning is most effective when it’s personalised; it means something to the learner. That happens when people feel they are participants and investors in their own learning, shaping what and how they learn, and able to articulate its value to them.” — Leadbeater, Charles

It is interesting how few classroom teachers and administrators are aware of what self-directed learning is. SDL is an imperative for our children.

Avery's curator insight, March 25, 2013 11:56 PM

My Thoughts:

You can't teach someone how to learn. You can give them helpful tips and advice, but a single structure for education is not going to work for everyone. It's so much harder for people to learn their true potential, to reach their goals, when they're only shown a single path to them. You show them the path through the forest, but what if there's a rock face nearby that also leads up to where they want to go, and what if they happen to be a fantastic rock climber? It just makes more sense to show someone a map if you can, instead of directing them towards only one path.

Tom Hood's curator insight, March 29, 2013 8:25 AM

Some great insights in this article for me, reaffirmations and reinforcement of principles around leading change and innovation.

Change is about people, not organizations or systems. Organizations are really about People. I use the term Return on People.

Transformation is about creation and destruction. I say transformation is creating what isn't rather than improving what is.

Paradox and the ability to hold onto completely opposite ideas (also from Jim Collins and the power of AND versus OR).

What do you think?

Orianne Corman's comment, April 3, 2013 5:43 AM
Hello Tom, for me it's very interesting to connect opposite ideas, it's the soil of creativity.

How To Capture Ideas at Presentations and Events by Doing Visual Recording on the iPad

Robin Good: Rachel Smith explains in very simple words how you can use your iPad to capture and record visually the key ideas and concepts presented during a lecture, keynote, training class or presentation.

She provides a good round-up of four relevant tools that can be used for this task, analyzing their key pros and cons as well as providing logistic and technical advice on how to best organize and setup yourself for doing visual recording on the iPad.

As similar tools will provide more ready-made icons, templates and patterns available for this kind of real-time idea-capturing, this rare and pioneering visual recording work will begin to catch up even more rapidly.

Very useful. 8/10

Class Charts | Instructional Technology Tools | Scoop.it

This is a superb classroom management tool where you can track the behaviour of your class and keep them motivated. Simply click on the child and assign them a positive or negative behaviour point. You can also track their reading and spelling ages and make your own customised data set. Use this information to help you arrange the children within your class. You can have multiple classes on your teacher's account and you can share data with colleagues using different accounts. The data is encrypted to ensure data security. The system works on the majority of web enabled devices.
