Technology provides a vast array of great tools for leaders. But if used unthinkingly, technology can have a terrible effect on your leadership abilities. This article gave me some great insights to how I might alter future video conferencing (just do the audio and maybe a few documents on a shared server file), turn off the automatic alert on my Outlook and Smartphone, and avoid using the cloud or online access to my files when I should giving myself time to get away from my files.
I worry that the inconsistency in implementation occurring in states will undermine the valuable standards. It is clear that the Department of Education will not assume any leadership due to the politics of opposition to a national curriculum. The National Governors Association (NGA) and the Council of Chief State School Officers (CCSSO) are the best hope for consistent implementation, but the two organizations will fail if they do not assure that the unions are equal partners. It is clear to me that the more mistakes we see on implementation, the stronger the case is made for critics of Common Core State Standards.

The Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction was awarded a $10.5 million, four-year grant by the U.S. Department of Education last week to create an online English-language proficiency assessment pegged to the Common Core standards.
