Some possible solutions for displaying a Flash-based content on mobile devices

Tatiana Piatanova's insight:

Recently we were working with a free rapid dev piece of software called SmartBuilder which is Flash-based (but supposedly getting an HTML5 fall-back in a new version). The first question that came up was, "What about Mobile devices?" Turns out there are actually a few solutions available out there in order to view Flash-based content via mobile (and :

1. Photon Browser - ($4.99) for iPad https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/photon-flash-player-browser/id430200224?mt=8 and iPhone https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/photon-flash-web-browser-full/id453546382?ls=1&mt=8

2. If paid browser is not an optioniSWiFTER http://handheld.softpedia.com/get/Internet-Utilities/Browsers/iSWiFTER-119437.shtml is a free one and here is a tutorial on how to get it: http://youtu.be/2rbdyFxlVEM (nice trick)

3. And yet another cheap alternitive is an Atomic Web Browser which is only $0.99 – Browse FullScreen w/ Download Manager & Dropbox - https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/atomic-web-browser-browse/id347929410?mt=8 (which is my personal choice)

and on a further research I came upon even more suggestions from Leif on SmartBuilder community forum:
• Diigo Browser (free) – Chrome-like, with annotation and offline reading (formerly iChromy) - http://itun.es/iLX8hF
• Cloud Browse ($2.99) - http://itun.es/iLX8h9
• iCab Mobile (Web Browser) ($1.99) - http://itun.es/iLX87h
• Grazing Web Browser ($1.99) - http://itun.es/iLf2j5
• Skyfire Web Browser ($4.99) - http://itun.es/iLf2DJ and $2.99 for the iPhone.
• Puffin Web Browser ($0.99) - http://itun.es/iLq4ky
• Opera Mini Web browser (free) - http://itun.es/iLq42r

Looks like a good idea. Especially since you become the owner of the work and it is not stored on a third party site...

Vicki Mast's curator insight, September 13, 2013 11:24 AM

I just downloaded the free version which looks good, but may have to upgrade. The features look well worth the $3.99 price. You can move & resize your drawn objects, zoom in/out, etc. If you're working on creating "flipped classroom" videos, or how-to tutorials this may be what you need. Check out their website and user guide for the details.

Building on the Cloud: Gehry and Box Overhaul Architecture With New Paperless Service

Building on the Cloud: Gehry and Box Overhaul Architecture With New Paperless Service | Instructional Design | Scoop.it

Society for College and University Planning (SCUP)'s curator insight, April 10, 2013 4:26 PM

“It’s a category that’s really well suited to the cloud when you think about the kind of scale of data that exists in a lot of these projects,” he says. “You know, some of them range to terabytes of information.”

Not only are the files complex, but records of who has edited, and when, and how add another level that Box helps sort out. And, points out Levie, because the files are so big, they’ve instituted a feature where users can see the renderings before downloading them, to make sure they’re looking at the right ones.

“I think when you can bring these tools to the masses, it really opens up innovation in an incredible way,” says Levie.

Gehry concurs. “I’ve dedicated a whole pile of my life — time and effort — on this topic,” he says, because most of the architecture around the world he hardly considers architecture. “It’s just buildings. And I have this hope that if we have the right tools out there that people with talent can prevail, and can show how you can build wonderful buildings for the same cost.”
