Crone LMC's insight:

Thanks to Mrs. Sandy Knight, Mrs. Julie Malinowski, and Mrs. Heidi McCluskey, students at Crone can come to STEAM Team every Friday and learn how to work as a team, exercise their curiosity, and make new discoveries.  Sessions Sandy and I attended at ICE 2013 inspired us to come together to launch this adventure with Crone students.

# 2 Project IdeaWorld Literature: Connect & Curate

# 2 Project IdeaWorld Literature: Connect & Curate | Learn. Share. Create. Top 10 Things from ICE 2013 | Scoop.it
Crone LMC's insight:

Perfect Project for 8th Grade ELA

I'm super excited to share this project idea with you!  Shown on this web site as a project for World Literature class, we could change the topic to almost anything.  It incorporates a myriad of Commom Core skills and 21st Century Literacy Skills.  It's a 4-part project that includes Independent Reading, Research, a virtual Presentation piece, and Reflection and Assessment.  Generously shared and documented by Diane Mankowski (media center director) and Keely McCuiston (English teacher) at Glenbard South High School, we can easily tweak this project to suit our students' needs.

This web site, created by Diane and Keely, provides many of the resources we'll need.  Students can build on their knowledge of NoodleTools and launch new learning using new tools like Edmodo and Scoop.It.

The web site also includes a PowerPoint that provides a good starting point for your exploation of this project.  It could easily be adapted and used to present our own project to students.  Sample projects are available online.  Here's a link to one student project: http://www.scoop.it/t/like-water-for-chocolate-mexican-culture.

#10 Teacher Resources Library of Congress

#10 Teacher Resources Library of Congress | Learn. Share. Create. Top 10 Things from ICE 2013 | Scoop.it
The Library of Congress offers classroom materials and professional development to help teachers effectively use primary sources from the Library's vast digital collections in their teaching.
Crone LMC's insight:

December 2013 - Students in ELA Classes with Mr. Verdun and Social Studies Classes with Mrs. Gerchman learned to locate, analyze, synthesize and present information gained from viewing primary sources.

Students will gain Visual Literacy skills by using the Library of Congress - great practice for text analysis.  Teachers can download the Analysis Tool for Students http://www.loc.gov/teachers/usingprimarysources/guides.html.

Show students an image from the LOC collection and use this worksheet to practice the skills to observe, to reflect, and to question.

Access Primary Source Sets, Lesson Plans, Presentation & Activities, Themed Resources, and more using all this web site has to offer.

Thank you Pam &.
