Stunning Water Curtain Installation Zigzags Through Woods in France

Stunning Water Curtain Installation Zigzags Through Woods in France | Art Installation | Scoop.it
French architect Louis Sicard created the Bridal Veil, a breathtaking water curtain installation that zigzags through the woods in France's Sancy region. Working with fellow architect Emil Yusta and carpenter Thorsten Fischer, Sicard designed and built a pine and copia timber structure that carries a triangular channel similar to an aqueduct. The base of the channel is perforated with 4,000 holes filled with small pipes, which allows water to pour through to form a trickling, vertical, aqueous screen that visitors can walk under for a refreshing sensation.
"The waterfall is called the Bridal Veil for its delicate appearance, its uniform distribution on a deposit of volcanic ash," says Sicard. "When the sun is up, lights and shadows of the forest and reflections of the water finally complete the magical scene of the waterfall."
The stunning installation was created for the annual Horizons Sancy Art and Nature Festival, which features a series of artworks across the region, such as this…

Japanese Bonsai Tree and Flowers Launched into Space in Incredible Journey

Japanese Bonsai Tree and Flowers Launched into Space in Incredible Journey | Art Installation | Scoop.it
Japanese artist Azuma Makoto has worked with bonsai trees in the past, but his newest botanical art project is out of this world—literally. On July 15, Makoto and his crew ventured to Nevada’s Black Rock Desert to launch two objects into space: "Shiki 1," a 50-year-old white pine bonsai suspended from a metal frame, and an untitled arrangement of orchids, hydrangeas, lilies, irises, and other flowers.
To accomplish the mission, called Exobiotanica, Makoto collaborated with JP Aerospace, a volunteer-based organization that constructs and sends vessels into orbit. Working from the middle of the night until dawn, the team secured the plants to lightweight devices hanging from helium balloons. After attaching tracking devices, still cameras, and GoPro video cameras to record the unique space flight, the bonsai and the floral arrangement were launched into the stratosphere, soaring to the amazing heights of 91,800 ft (27.98 km) and 87,000 ft (26.51 km), respectively. Although the vessels…

Live Ants Create "Sculpture" Tunnels in New Plexiglass Art

In this "live" new piece of art by artist Brad Troemel, worker ants take center stage as they're seen creating tunnels through multi-colored gel. The gel provides the ants with all of the necessary nutrients, so it's up to the ants to complete their daily tasks. This includes biting into the gel, chewing it and packing smaller bits into larger spheres, carrying gel chunks to the surface and storing their refuse into designated piles. Most of the gel is excavated and organized.
The artwork consists of nine clear plexiglass cartridges that hang from the ceiling. Since these are all clear, viewers can watch the ants scurry around as they perform their daily tasks. They can even see these ants build the "sculpture" tunnels themselves.
Part science, part art, it's a mesmerizing piece of work that gives you an inside look at ant farms.
The artist himself learned a few things. "Some people say ants build tunnels aimlessly, but those people haven’t watched ants for as long as I have. Ants…
