Facebook rolling out option for fans to receive notifications about page posts

Facebook rolling out option for fans to receive notifications about page posts | Inspiring Social Media | Scoop.it

Facebook’s algorithms are sometimes a problem for fan pages who publish only a few posts. The problem is that they don’t appear in the stream of their fans. With this new feature, that could change, if the fan... activates this new option. Interesting! [note Martin Gysler]

Facebook is rolling out a new feature for users to opt in to receive notifications every time a page makes a post.

This seems to be a solution for fans who don’t want to miss any page posts that might not make it into their News Feed because of Facebook’s algorithms. For example, some users might want to be aware of all posts from a news publication, an artist they really like or a small business that doesn’t post very often. The feature is similar to the “close friends” option, which alerts users each time a new update or photo is shared by someone on the list.

Retailers Pin Hopes on Christmas

Retailers Pin Hopes on Christmas | Inspiring Social Media | Scoop.it
With retailers ringing up unusually high sales using Pinterest—arguably the year’s biggest digital-platform sensation—marketers are getting ready to pin holiday gift ideas and seasonal content like glittering ornaments to a virtual Pinterest Christmas tree.
“We will post a sharable, interactive gift guide and offer how-to videos and tutorials for looks to help [customers be] party ready,” said Bridget Dolan, Sephora’s vp, digital media. “Pinterest has great potential for the holidays.”

Sephora counts 64,000 followers on Pinterest, a sizable audience for any brand on the young platform—but still not much in terms of social media scale.

This piece is by Mark Schaefer, - if you're not active on Pinterest, after you read this based on actual research, you might want to rethink your strategy.

Here are some highlights from The Social Habit research of American social media users shows some pretty staggering insights. Here are a few highlights:

  • Usage of Pinterest is already nearly as large as LinkedIn with 21% having a Pinterest account versus 26% on LinkedIn
  • More than half of Pinterest users visit the site each day.
  • We could be seeing just the tip of the iceberg for Pinterest’s growth. 38% of U.S. social media users plan to use Pinterest more often
  • 70% of the site’s users are women and 64% of the site’s fans are under the age of 34. In fact, Pinterest is the third-most widely-used social network for women 18-44 (behind Facebook and Twitter).
  • The most popular pins?

WAIT Work On These 14 Facebook Areas Before Spending To Promote

WAIT Work On These 14 Facebook Areas Before Spending To Promote | Inspiring Social Media | Scoop.it

Robin Good: If you are wondering why engagement on your Facebook page is so hard to come, with few questions and comments sparking up your page, here is a number of good questions to ask yourself, before buying into Promoting your posts which is what Facebook is trying to get you to do.

“How do I get my Facebook fans to participate more on our page?”

Motivating fans to like, comment on, and share your posts not only strengthens your bond with existing fans but also helps get you in front of a new and bigger audience: their friends. If no one’s talking to you on Facebook, it’s hard to know if your social media marketing efforts are going anywhere — and it’s definitely not much fun.

The key reasons for our failure on this front is generally a lack of creativity and perseverance on our end to utilize the right ingredients that spark engagement for our readers. A few little changes can make all of the difference in the world.

Useful read and reminder of what to look at. 7/10
