Whether we are talking about individual, managerial, or organizational fake focus, one thing is clear–the misalignment of focus leads to behavior or performance that is inefficient, wasteful, and debilitating to the achievement of the desired results. Fake focus leads to fake talk that leads to fake work that leads to poor results. Fixing your focus will help you fix your results.

Overall, working in an office is a fairly low-risk job: accidents are rare. However, with the sobering effects on mortality rates from sitting all day, the office just might be the death of you—if you let it. Fortunately, it’s very easy to implement these simple changes and live a healthier life in and out of the office. Don’t feel like you need to run a 5k at lunch. Just get up from the chair and head to the kitchen for a glass of water—it’s that easy.

Andrea Ross's curator insight, June 13, 7:06 AM

Here Here!!! I've met some pretty senior people in my career and the ones that really leave a lasting impression on me are the ones that have a down to earth approach that you know have an open door policy. It's not something that comes up regularly on leadership skills to develop but actually it's one of the most important ones out there. In some parts of the world it probably doesn't have a name as it's rarely used but in Asia I've been fortunate to see it blossom in a variety of leaders and should never be underestimated. May it continue to be used....

We all have to deal with difficult conversations whether it be professionally or personally. Some will run and avoid confronting the conflict and others jump in which can also be dangerous. Nice little article to get you thinking and prepared when conflict rears it's head. I cover conflict within my "Billing Manager" training, if you can follow the stages of SOCS (Situation, Options, Consequences & Solution) it will reduce the negativity in conflict situations and get you to enhance your listening skills enabling you both to come through the other side smiling!!
