Theophilus's curator insight, March 26, 4:44 AM

One of the most powerful cases for story, narrative that I have heard in a very long while. A true example of the recipient of the very benefits of story he preaches, Judah Pollack lays down the gauntlet to help us process life through story. Thanks Judah for mastering the degree of Awesomeness and showing me the possibilities within my own story - in 3D.

Three ways to tell your brand's story with social media | Ologie

Three ways to tell your brand's story with social media | Ologie | Intelligent Communications | Scoop.it
We no longer live in a broadcast age. That means you can’t just buy people’s attention—it must be earned. And the best way to earn it in an era where most messages are ignored is to tell a good story. No matter what medium you use, a good story is authentic and creative, provokes an emotional connection, takes people on a journey, and inspires action. But with social media, it’s also important to know what will prompt people to share your story with their social networks. It usually boils down to one or more of the following reasons: - Bringing valuable or entertaining content to othersDefining ourselves to others - Growing relationships - Spreading the word about causes or brands we care about. If you have a worthwhile story that people will want to share, then you have the foundation in place. You now need to make it come alive in social media. Here are three ways to do it....

The science behind storytelling

The science behind storytelling | Intelligent Communications | Scoop.it
Emotionally engaging stories affect more areas of the brain than rational, data-driven messages – meaning that they are far more likely to resonate with your employees. Jenny Nabben explains the neuroscience behind this, and how you can use it to showcase the benefits of storytelling. Across every culture, in every part of the world, humans have told stories to understand, share and recall knowledge. While our ancestors sat around the camp fire listening to the tribal storyteller, we now sit in cinemas, theaters or in front of TVs, computers and mobile phones to share the stories of our lives. In fact, the universal nature of storytelling may explain our shared, evolved human psyche. One of the brain’s unique design features is its ability to recognize patterns so that we can quickly predict what is most likely to happen next. Over the centuries we have used narrative story structure as the most elegant way to communicate our messages, passions, vision and who we are. Our appetite for storytelling is voracious; since the invention of the Gutenberg printing press in around 1440, humans have so far written around 129,864,880 books, and while each book is unique we can group them into common themes. Christopher Booker, in his book The Seven Basic Plots, suggests that there are seven ‘core’ plots that comprise the most commonly recognizable narrative structures. These are, a journey taken and the return; overcoming challenges; making our way in the world; a quest; comedy; tragedy; and rebirth.

How Creating an Emotional Response Helps Drive Action With Video

How Creating an Emotional Response Helps Drive Action With Video | Intelligent Communications | Scoop.it
After watching your videos, your audience should feel something. You don't need to be controversial, but you do need to elicit emotion to inspire your viewers into action.... While some content lends itself to emotion more easily than others (a whiteboard video might not be “emotional” in the traditional sense), your content is far more likely to inspire downloads, trials, demos, etc. if it elicits a powerful response fuelling your prospects’ follow through. And remember, at the end of the day, “emotional” or inspiring content is simply stuff that makes you feel something. It doesn’t really matter if your audience is laughing or crying at the end of your video, but they better be feeling something or you’ll be easily forgotten or skipped over. Ultimately, if your on-screen personas, comedy, or message gets people to like the implied character of your brand, you’ve got the right idea....
