Alice in WonderTech: The 9 C's of Digital Literacy

Alice in WonderTech: The 9 C's of Digital Literacy | Information Literacy & Inquiry Learning | Scoop.it

Alice Chen writes: "We all know that our digital natives are very at ease with technology. In fact, they’re in love with technology, but does that automatically make them digital proficient?

When I originally pondered this question, I began to realize that the 5 C's often discussed in education today - communication, collaboration, creativity, critical thinking, and citizenship - needed to be expanded to include these other areas as well: curation, copyright, character and connectedness."

Check out this interactive visualization and see how quickly data is being generated online. You may want to snap some screen shots and have your students determine how quickly Twitter accounts are created, hours of YouTube videos are uploaded, items are purchased from Amazon and much more. A total of 23 sources are being updated second by second.

Hello, Year 9!

Here is an excellent resource regarding questions that a critical thinker asks whilst reading. I believe this will be incredibly useful for you as you develop your chapter summary for chapter four of The Outsiders which is due at the end of this week. Remember - you can present your chapter summary in any way you wish - a story board, a mind map, a Prezi, a short multimedia presentation, whatever takes your fancy.

As a critical thinker, you will need to develop the skills to read between the lines of what the author (in this case, S. E. Hinton) is describing through the text. This infographic provides you with some questions to help you get into the role of a critical thinker, and get you started on your project.

This is a great infographic for showing the thought process of finding information.

Terry Yelmene's curator insight, August 16, 2015 11:50 AM

A pretty well-reasoned, fundamental thought process for most knowledge work research.  This serves as an even better backward (there-to-here) model to guide the core research workflow process automation  a knowledge worker may want to devise, install.  Think work product-informed -> DevonThink structures -> DevonAgent w/'Active Filtered' automated searches.  The most important drivers here are - 'ethical' - (more than just multiple sources, a stage needs to be added at the work product stage to provide authenticity) and - 'bias' -  (a post automated search,  subsequent manual search for corroborating items selection to provide authority).
