In 2003, an ex-lover of mine, the co-founder of a tech company in New York, said to me: "If you blog, I can make your website rank high on search and make you famous."
I thought: “Yeah, right.”

A biography contends that Coco Chanel was a Nazi agent.
For the first time ever, I looked up Coco Chanel's biography on Google. I'm embarrassed to say that I've praised the designer for her creative genius many times before, but I hadn't known that she was anti-semitic and homophobic. Well...at least I can cross out that Chanel bag on my wish list.

I can't believe we're not talking about this woman more! She's incredible. Her book published in 1969, Computer Languages: History and Fundamentals, is a survey of 120 programming languages. Genius!
Great post from Lady Geek AnneBot! Do what you're good at. (But it doesn't hurt to learn how to build things either...)
The last three photos are haunting.
Love and life. Thank you to Angelo for sharing both from his wife.
You can find out more about the photographs, order his book, and read his gut-wrenching "our story" account at Angelo's website, My Wife's Fight With Breast Cancer. You can Like his photography on Facebook and follow him on Twitter.
All eyes are on the New York Stock Exchange Thursday to see whether the Big Board pulls off Twitter's initial public offering without the glitches that plagued Facebook's 2012 trading debut.
History made. I remember when Blip.tv came to LA for an online video conference and its team wanted me to follow them on Twitter. This was in 2005. I didn't get it. Now I do.
Spirits, alcoholic ones, have their way of sinking their depressive tendrils deep inside, drawing up everything we keep locked away. My man and I spent the night apart, out and about Brooklyn.
The piece itself is windy but doesn't really end up anywhere. I got more out of reading the comments.

A call to arms against the last acceptable dating prejudice.
This is a wonderful piece on curbing our prejudices. I'm a smaller woman, but I always thought tall women with a shorter man looked SO Hollywood.

The International Day of the Female Orgasm -- or Día Internacional del Orgasmo Femenino -- is a Brazilian holiday celebrated every year on Aug. 8.
This was on Aug. 8, 2012. Sad I missed it. I guess it doesn't matter, does it?
Professional networking site LinkedIn has kicked up a controversy after it took down ads from a small company that featured photos of female web developers.
Believe it or not! Yes, she is a front-end engineer. A few months ago, startup Toptal ran ads with the photo of one of their developers, Florencia Antara, on the LinkedIn platform. What happened next? LinkedIn took them down citing that users complained the ad was misleading. Things that make you go hmmm?

With regards to sex lives, one of the most fascinating discoveries is that aging liberals have way more sex. Political ideology had no bearing on overall life satisfaction, but the most conservative men on average shut down their sex lives around age 68, while the most liberal men had healthy sex lives well into their 80s. Vaillant writes, “I have consulted urologists about this, they have no idea why it might be so.”
I have an idea on why this might be! Men with liberal values are probably more open minded than conservative ones. They might also be more attracted to free-spirited women who aren't stiff like some conservative women I know.
This woman committed fraud and I feel for the poor husband here. He obviously was looking out for the best interests of his children when he selected this woman, meanwhile she was only thinking about the best interests of herself.
Not so sure if "hiding" plastic surgery work from your husband is a good thing...but it's also not criminal...is it? According to this blog, it is.
