This video covers various topics important to mapping and satellite imagery (and alesson from an APHG teacher on how to use this video with other resources).  There is so much more to the world and space than what we can see see.  Chromoscope, referenced in the video, simulates other forms of energy on the electromagnetic spectrum besides just visible light.  This type of information is at the core of the science behind all of our satellite imagery.  This video also covers many map projection issues and highlights online resources to understand map distortion including:

Google’s Mercator Map PuzzleJason Davies’ interactive map projection websiteInteractive Gnomonic Projectionand the military's live rendering of what the Earth looks like right now.

Additionally, here is the final newsletter (earlier editions of the newsletter archived here).   I'll miss the friendliness and professional expertise of this fantastic network of geography educators.  See you next year!

Geographic perspective - Geographers are constantly searching for patterns and explanation among location, spread, and issues in human activity. Visual perspective is the most effective way to analyze information, which is why the use of maps is always helpful. Maps are used in many different forms, scales, and topics for comparison to other parts of the world. Geographers never fail to continue asking "why?", and with crazy map categories, the data shows great perspective to possible answers or solutions.

The free version only allows public mindmaps/brainstorms, so if you are in a school setting and don't want student work to be shared, this might not be the right tool. The professional version that allows you to make the maps private is a steep $49 a month.
