Pupils first to engage with new theatre innovation – The Ulster Herald | innovative libraries | Scoop.it

Drama students from the schools had the chance to use an impressive new digital archive produced through a partnership between Ulster Bank and the Linen Hall Library, supported by Arts and Business.
An expert from the library brought the archive to the school and provided a workshop for the pupils, including an interactive talk about the history and content of the Theatre and Performing Arts Archive, and a demonstration of the online resource.
Containing ‘treasures’ dating back to the 1700s, the archive includes some of the North’s most prized theatre materials.Tyrone News, Tyrone sport - Local Newspaper The Ulster Herald

The Bubbler, a new Madison Public Library program, finds innovative ways to connect creative types - Isthmus | The Daily Page

The Bubbler, a new Madison Public Library program, finds innovative ways to connect creative types - Isthmus | The Daily Page | innovative libraries | Scoop.it
In the past, Madison Public Library wasn't the place to craft a blueprint or build a miniature rocket. If there were any handmade books on the premises, they were probably in a display case, behind a layer of glass.

Doug Mirams's curator insight, April 18, 9:09 AM

The Bubbler, "refers to how creativity bubbles up from the population"  described as "pop-up events held at locations throughout the city" of Madison Wisconsin, writes Lauren Pongan for the Daily Page.

She goes on to say, "The library, especially the Bubbler, hopes to help by hosting pop-up workshops, offering drop-in hours at an animation lab, and bringing programs and technology to places where teens spend their time.

"It's not classroom-style alone," [Teen Services Librarian Jesse] Vieau says of the Bubbler's instructional style. "It's not a lecture. It's a more informal learning environment with experts who can teach hands-on activities instead of just theory."

Massive Open Opportunity: Supporting MOOCs in Public and Academic Libraries

Massive Open Opportunity: Supporting MOOCs in Public and Academic Libraries | innovative libraries | Scoop.it

If you’re an academic librarian, you’re probably already awash, at least peripherally, in news about MOOCs—massive open online courses have been touted as the next big thing in higher ed since they burst on the scene about a year ago. If you’re a public librarian, on the other hand, you may not even have heard of them. Yet MOOCs are bringing unprecedented challenges and opportunities to both kinds of libraries already, and they’re only going to grow.

The Adventures of Library Girl: Libraries as Cultivators of Creativity: There's an App for That! http://t.co/vSUG6TXdZe By @jenniferlagarde

"...here some of my favorite APPs to help spark student creativity.   If you're lucky to have access to mobile devices in your library, these would make some great additions to your APP collection.   And if you don't have such access, they are worth exploring anyway - to consider what they provide students with the opportunity to do and then to think about how you can provide students with those same opportunities with or without a gadget."

Apps:

- Felt Board

- Draw Quest

- Art Set

- Sock Puppets

- Comic Life

- Art Studio

"As librarians, we have an opportunity and an obligation to create spaces and instruction that cultivate our students' creativity.  Our spaces, our flexibility and our skills make the library the perfect place to turn kids loose: to give them the chance to imagine, explore, create and share.  Along the way, they'll make mistakes and plenty of messes, but that's how we all learn.  We may not all have access to the APPs I've shared in this post, but we've all got access to something far more important:  kids.  All of whom are eager and ready to get started!"

WEBINAR RECORDING: How to Start a Seed Library | innovative libraries | Scoop.it

At a seed library, patrons can check out seeds for free. They then grow the fruits and vegetables, harvest the new seeds, and "return" those seeds so the library can lend them out to others. In April 2013, New Dream hosted a webinar about how to start a seed lending program at your public library. Topics include funding models, obtaining starter seeds, patron orientation, and more. The webinar features speakers from seed libraries around the country.
