Librarians as Engineers of Innovation…By David Lankes
nnovation is a term with baggage. To some it is a nebulous concept thrown around to little effect. To others, it is a daunting task reserved for a few visionaries. In this presentation Lankes will talk about how innovation is the job of every librarian. Lankes will also talk about how innovation must be matched to a mission of learning and constant community improvement.

If you are looking to do a renovation, there are so many beautiful ideas!!!

wildswans's curator insight, May 5, 2013 12:03 AM

Such wonderful ideas and sometimes all it takes is a few more curves and yet I find myself wondering, where is the balance between spaces carved out for physical play and those for imaginative play (in between the covers of a book). How do we divide the spaces such that children who want to play can play and others who want a place to hide and read can cuddle up in a cosy corner.

“Who do you look up to as a leader, and why?” Senga shares: It compelled me to really think about the attributes of a great leader and clarified my thinking around why certain names came to mind first. My own personal list of people I look to in my professional life for inspiration, superb ideas and sound reasoning is extensive,  but I thought I would share just a few who have been consistently influential.

Susan Grigsby @sksgrigsby's curator insight, October 1, 2013 10:09 AM

I absolutely LOVE this presentation so I wanted to share it. My pessimistic self is already thinking that David Lankes is probably preaching to the choir and the librarians out there who want to be "keepers of books" and dwell in quiet spaces are NOT going to hear (maybe I should say listen) to this talk. My optimistic self is thinking maybe someone will be inspired to step it up after listening.
