12 Findings on Mind, Brain & Education

12 Findings on Mind, Brain & Education | Innovative Education | Scoop.it

http://diigo.com/0osrm

This is a must read (and probably everyting it links to is too!)

Student-centered learning, provides “flexible learning experiences that enable students at various levels to build toward mastery of a common set of core skills. A commitment to addressing the individual needs and goals of each student is at the core of the model.

Education should give students opportunities to practice setting goals, tracking progress toward them, adjusting strategies along the way, and assessing outcomes.

Providing meaningful learning experiences with ongoing guidance can enable students at all levels to build toward mastery of a common set of skills.

Student-centered approaches to learning require students to be self-directed and responsible for their own learning, which requires executive functioning skills such as goal setting, planning, and monitoring progress.

Y a-t-il une distance qui rapproche ?

Y a-t-il une distance qui rapproche ? | Innovative Education | Scoop.it

Creating Assignments That Work for Digital Learning Environments -- THE Journal

Creating Assignments That Work for Digital Learning Environments -- THE Journal | Innovative Education | Scoop.it
To create assignments that work the focus must be on process, not task. Many constructivist learning theorists in the past have agreed on this, yet it remains a challenge. It's tempting to identify tasks, as they can be analyzed more easily, they're quantifiable and, therefore, gradable. Process-based learning is messier, takes longer to evaluate and, by definition, allows for many more variables than simple tasks. I do not mean that tasks are never to be assigned or evaluated. I mean that tasks are simply that--tasks. They do not necessarily demonstrate the learning of the student in the wider sense of the word. To shift the focus to process, however, we need to change what we value in our grading.
