The Curious Case of the Antidepressant, Anti-Anxiety Backyard Garden | Innovative Agriculture - Agriculture 3.0 | Scoop.it
Whether it's microbes in the dirt or fresh air—or both—researchers do know this: Gardening is strong medicine.
Gayl Creutzberg's insight:

“What our research suggests is that eating, touching, and breathing a soil organism may be tied to the development of our immune system and our nervous system. But you have to understand that we fed our mice much more of that organism than you are likely to find in a peck of dirt—it was more like a drug dose.”

(Perma)culturally Deconditioning the Climate Crisis

(Perma)culturally Deconditioning the Climate Crisis | Innovative Agriculture - Agriculture 3.0 | Scoop.it
It is now more than ever apparent that the permaculture/ regenerative agriculture/ carbon farming community has the more efficient solutions to sequestering carbon and reversing the negative effects of sea level rise, rising temperatures, and ecosystem exploitation. It also appears that these ecologically-based solutions may or may not take place at proper scale soon enough.
Gayl Creutzberg's insight:

" the re-branding of climate crisis" - farmers have the tools to take carbon out of the atmosphere. The crisis is the way we farm.

The Surprising Healing Qualities ... of Dirt

The Surprising Healing Qualities ... of Dirt | Innovative Agriculture - Agriculture 3.0 | Scoop.it
Ecological farming (or eco-farming, as my farmer friends call it) includes many systems (biodynamic, regenerative, permaculture, full-cycle, etc.) that share core holistic tenets: protecting topsoil with cover crops and minimal plowing, rotating crops, conserving water, limiting the use of chemicals (synthetic or natural), and recycling all animal and vegetable waste back into the land. Much of this research supports what traditional farmers around the world have long known to be true: the more ecologically we farm, the more nutrients we harvest.
