LIS Trends: Conference Paper: The Importance of Open Data to National Libraries | Innovation and the knowledge economy | Scoop.it

By linking different representations of related concepts in the Semantic Web, libraries can draw from that Web and enrich their own metadata and benefit locally. What is even more important is that they are able to really and seriously reach out to many more users in typical internet “places” like social networks, portals, and search engines. This will not only help them fulfill their public mission but also increase traffic back to the library’s site, helping them to monitor and prove their relevance in today’s’ internet based information universe.

Content Curation: From Information To Knowledge [Video]

Robin Good: Start this video clip at 1':42" (up to 3':30") and you can get a pretty good idea of what a content curator does and why what he does has so much to do with sense-making, making things understandable for others and ultimately extracting contextualized "meaning" from information "as is".

Must-see. Excellent. 9/10

P.S.: Thanks to Howard Rheingold for spotting this clip and sharing it.

Top Tech Trends and People of 2012

Here is the textbook that I created/curated for teaching my New Media Technology class during the Spring semester of 2012 at Hannam University's Linton Global College. I took great effort to give credit where it is due. I aimed to show my students how they could access enough free info on the web that was of equal or greater value than the wonderful information found in expensive textbooks. Feel free to share and please support the true authors of this book in any way you can (money, likes, blog comments, links, etc.) I am simply the currator of this content.

If you would like a free tablet-friendly PDF file, just email me at kenmorrison30 @ yahoo.com (no spaces)
