Rowin’s Blog: Evaluating feedback for elearning: centralised tutors

Rowin’s Blog: Evaluating feedback for elearning: centralised tutors | Innovatieve eLearning | Scoop.it

"Providing fast, focused feedback to a cohort of 200 busy professionals undertaking vocational distance learning with tuition provided by a diminishing number of tutors, a number of whom are part-time, is definitely a challenging undertaking, and one for which the TQFE-Tutor system at the University of Dundee provides an innovative centralised approach. The Evaluating Feedback for eLearning: Centralised Tutors (EFFECT) project, part of the JISC Assessment and Feedback programme Strand B, will be exploring the impact of this system and considering ways of further refining the process to maximise efficiency and student benefits."

This post provides an overview of a centralised tutor support system and apparent benefits, such as supporting independent learning, peer interaction, streamlining the assessment process and reducing administrative workloads.

There is no such thing as an eTeacher - only good and less good teachers. And some use more digital tools than others.

Start the iText Revolution With Me? | Online Universities

Start the iText Revolution With Me? | Online Universities | Innovatieve eLearning | Scoop.it

By Justin Marquis Ph.D.

" I remember being in graduate school when the Internet was first becoming popular and everyone was scrambling to port their content online. The problem was that most people were not taking advantage of the most unique ability of the Internet at that time, hyperlinking. It took some time before people caught on to how different things could be online – eventually adding images, audio, video and social interaction. Apple’s announcement of iBooks2 and the free iBook Author app just did for e-books what it took ten years or more to happen to the Internet – and they did it in a 1-hour press conference at the Guggenheim. Here is how iBooks2 changes the textbook world forever...."

Broadband, Social Networks, and Mobility Have Spawned a New Kind of Learner| The Committed Sardine

Broadband, Social Networks, and Mobility Have Spawned a New Kind of Learner| The Committed Sardine | Innovatieve eLearning | Scoop.it

"Students are different today because of technology. Every educator knows this, of course, but this change is about much more than agile thumbs, shriveling attention spans, and OMG'd vocabularies. According the Pew Research Center, the combination of widespread access to broadband Internet connectivity, the popularity of social networking, and the near ubiquity of mobile computing is producing a fundamentally new kind of learner, one that is self-directed, better equipped to capture information, more reliant on feedback from peers, more inclined to collaborate, and more oriented toward being their own "nodes of production.""These three elements together have changed the context of learning," says Lee Rainie, director of the Pew Research Center's Internet and American Life Project.....

"Because the broadband environment has so increased the volume and velocity and variety of information in people's lives, analytics has become much more important," Rainie said. "We are entering the age of Big Data, and it's one of the trends we are going to be tracking at Pew. The big question is, how are we going to figure out what all these data are telling us about our students."
