The visual contains a number of educational apps and web tools that you can use with you students in class for digital storytelling projects. We have included apps for Android and iPad users as well as tools for web users. Check them out and share with us your feedback.

A tester !

Amazon launches Storyteller to turn scripts into storyboards -- automagically

Amazon launches Storyteller to turn scripts into storyboards -- automagically | Create, Innovate & Evaluate in Higher Education | Scoop.it

Excerpt from review article by VentureBeat:
"Upload your script, choose some backgrounds, and magically created a professional-looking storyboard of your movie. Or the graphic novel version of your text-based anything.

Amazon Studios released Storyteller today to allow writers and filmmakers to quickly, easily — and cheaply — storyboard their scripts.

Roy Price, Amazon’s director of Studios said: “Storyteller provides a digital backlot, acting troupe, prop department, and assistant editor — everything you need to bring your story to life.”

You start by uploading a script to Amazon Studios — or by playing with one that’s already there. Then simply page through the script paragraph by paragraph. Storyteller will try to match up characters, props, and background with the words in each chunk of text, and it does a surprisingly good job.

But if you don’t like what Storyteller gives, you can choose from its library, or even upload your own custom background or characters. Currently, the software has a library of thousands of props, characters, and backgrounds..."

I do digital storytelling with my English language students quite regularly and have played with many tools in the process. I'm particularly in favour of tools that enable collaborative work and the uploading of a variety of media as this means that varying levels of language learners can work together and yet still gain from the learning process.

Hats to Susan Mernit, who has an excellent piece on Knight Digital Media Center about how to do effective news curation and storytelling with Storify.

She brings in lots of relevant stories and examples showcasing how other individuals and journalists have been effectively using this news curation platform.

"The most successful creators of Meograph and Storify pages are united by one thing: they’re skilled editors and curators who know how to look at content posted on multiple social networks and pull out the pieces that will best help them to tell a story."

“Storify is the best way to gather tweets, comments, snippets and images from all around the Web and put them into one post. It's a new way of blogging that lets all your Internet friends participate.”

Brava Susan, great job and superglad to have intercepted you again.

9 Creative Storytelling Tools That Will Make You Wish You Were A Student Again -- THE Journal

9 Creative Storytelling Tools That Will Make You Wish You Were A Student Again -- THE Journal | Create, Innovate & Evaluate in Higher Education | Scoop.it

By Kim Fortson

T.H.E. Journal asked educators for the most creative storytelling apps available, and we did a little digging on our own, too. The tools and apps we found turn students into novelists, artists, and moviemakers.

According to Bellow, students can share these stories with, at the very least, their peers, but also with friends and family and on social networks, “So there’s a real audience out there who can find their stories as well.”

Game-Based Storytelling

Game-Based Storytelling | Create, Innovate & Evaluate in Higher Education | Scoop.it
All games tell stories. Unlike other media (books, television, film), the interactivity puts the player in the role of protagonist. Writing games can be quite complex and involve more than characters
Alfredo Corell's insight:

In games, the player makes decisions based on the perspective of someone else. This differs from other more passive media, like film, novels and television, where the viewer is the observer. Giving students an opportunity to reflect on games they've played, while weaving in class content, can add a layer of fun and authenticity!

50 Resources to Use Animation as a Teaching Tool

50 Resources to Use Animation as a Teaching Tool | Create, Innovate & Evaluate in Higher Education | Scoop.it
Ready to Go Animation
Via Ana Cristina Pratas
Alfredo Corell's insight:

Some of the animation links catalogued here will give educators very basic tools and histories of animation while others have the animation already created and set in motion, it’s just a matter of sharing it with students.

Educators need to decide which tool is best for them. If you want to create your own animation from scratch, then you want to go to sites such as Animwork. If you want to select from animation that’s already set up for you then perhaps Explainia makes more sense.
