The emergence of x and c MOOCs and pedagogy

The emergence of x and c MOOCs and pedagogy | Create, Innovate & Evaluate in Higher Education | Scoop.it

The three sorts of MOOCs would serve different types of learners differently based on what the institutions would offer and what the learners might need and expect.

Alfredo Corell's insight:

What would be the future of MOOCs?

As discussed, the three sorts of MOOCs would serve different types of learners differently based on what the institutions would offer and what the learners might need and expect.

There are no clear crystal balls in accurately predicting what would emerge out of these winners, though it is for sure that the ultimate model of Higher Education would likely go with xMOOCs within the coming decade, as the demand for qualifications, formal teacher-based education is still the norm.

Worth a read, but could be better organized (define "x" and "c" MOOCs early, for instance)

Carlos Fosca's curator insight, August 15, 2013 6:44 AM

Is What is the Future of the University? the wrong question? - a video by University Alliance

Is What is the Future of the University? the wrong question? - a video by University Alliance | Create, Innovate & Evaluate in Higher Education | Scoop.it

Over-concern for one's own future is often an invitation to those who present themselves as the 'strong man/women' ready to save the country/institution/etc. As Hayek and others warned us a long time ago, these people are dangerous. Thinking of others needs to come before self-interest. Universities are currently rather over-concerned about their future, preferring to worry about that than the terrible burden that is to be carried by their students.

Future Models of Learning - Debate

Future Models of Learning - Debate | Create, Innovate & Evaluate in Higher Education | Scoop.it

Does new technology conflict with or complement established teaching and learning? What is the impact on the teaching profession as we have traditionally known it? Will the power of the internet, with new innovations such as Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs), create an unstoppable ‘avalanche’ of education reform, or are these reforms a false revolution? Can the value of face-to-face quality learning and student-teacher relationships ever really be questioned, at any level of education? Will the class room, lecture theatre, and traditional notion of education space – schools and universities – be usurped by a screen, online and distance learning, or alternative spaces such as the workplace, home, or concert-hall?

The discussion is more than a hour so make sure you're comfortable before you start viewing.

Ivon Prefontaine's curator insight, July 3, 2013 8:03 AM

It should complement. Art and the French language provide a word for what should happen: bricolage. Bricolage is the blending of two materials, in this case traditional and new pedagogy, in ways that might infuse them. A philosophical approach might to use Gadamer and Vico to discuss sensus communis which is the common sense of a community based on wisdom and creativity.

The format is interesting as it is similar to a Ethnograhic Futures Research format gone viral.

Radical rethink: how to design university courses in the online age

Radical rethink: how to design university courses in the online age | Create, Innovate & Evaluate in Higher Education | Scoop.it
